Baystate Franklin Medical Center is offering three new support groups for individuals with special needs in our community. All three groups are free; pre-registration is not necessary.
The Caregiver Support Group was formed to support caregivers in the emotionally and physically taxing role of taking care of loved ones who, for a variety of reasons, are unable to take care of themselves. All caregivers and family members are welcome. The group meets on the second and fourth Tuesday of every month, 2 to 3 p.m. in the Second Floor Conference Room, 48 Sanderson St. (BFMC’s Medical Office Building). The second new group, the Stroke Support Group takes place the third Tuesday of the month, 10 to 11 a.m., Conference Room C. The next meeting will take place Tuesday, Sept. 20. Light refreshments available. Diane Stephan, RN, BSN, Emergency Department nurse educator and stroke coordinator at BFMC, will facilitate the group. The goals of the new support group are to promote an atmosphere of caring and cooperation, promote new goals and friendships for stroke survivors and their families and caregivers, and to renew hope and encourage independence. All stroke survivors, their family members and caregivers are welcome. The Amputee Support Group has a goal of assisting amputees in their daily lives by offering them the opportunity to share ideas and support each other. Sohail Waien, MD, BFMC hospitalist, facilitates this group. The Amputee Support Group generally meets the third Thursday of the month, 5 to 6:30 p.m., in the BFMC Conference Rooms. The Friends of the Orange Public Libraries will be hosting a Fall Flea Market on Sept. 17 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the lawn of the Wheeler Memorial Library. Vendors are being sought to participate in the event with a 10’ x 10’ space available for $15. All proceeds will benefit the programs and services offered by the Orange Public Libraries. Contributions for the Friends’ table are also being accepted such as jewelry, glassware, house plants, small tools, craft items, kitchenware and decorative/seasonal items.
