Greenfield’s Aaron Stone is adding a pewter mug to his trophy collection.
Stone completed a 5½-mile run in 32 minutes, 54 seconds to win the 36th annual Montague Mug Race on Saturday.
Stone finished more than a minute ahead of Erving’s Robert Bezio to earn the win after he finished third last season with a time of 33:39. Bezio, who ran the Bridge of Flowers 10K last weekend, finished second in 34:39. Stone was at the Bridge of Flowers event last weekend but only as a spectator.
Agawam’s Anna Reid, a Northfield Mount Hermon School graduate, finished third overall in 36:10 and ran away with the women’s field, finishing over five minutes ahead of any other woman. Leverett’s Brian Pickell, who also ran in the Bridge of Flowers 10K last weekend, finished fourth in 36:49, and Erving’s Derek Postena was fifth in 39:13.
Conway’s Ron Boyden (39:16), Montague’s Patrick Pezzati (39:42), Amherst’s Norman Sproehnle (39:48), Whitesboro, N.Y.’s, Scott Fallon (39:57), and Leverett’s Edward Appel (40:07) rounded out the top 10.
Hatfield’s Erin Guzowski was the second woman across the line in 41:18, while North Granby’s Jeanne LaPierre was third in 43:03. Nicole Kelcher of Pelham was fourth in 45:48, and Vernon’s Nicole Couture was fifth in 46:11.
The race paid tribute to Tracy Turn, a Montague resident who was involved with the race until she passed away 10 years ago at the age of 42.
Montague’s Alexander Davidson Carroll won the Mini Mug race ahead of Turners Falls’ Stone Dresser. Montague’s Julianna Mariani won the Female Division, and Montague’s Tawny Currier was second. No times were provided for the Mini Mug.
