ATHOL — About 400 packets of heroin are off the streets after police found the drugs in a car stopped for an expired inspection sticker on Daniel Shays Highway.
According to the Orange Police Department, the traffic stop happened early Wednesday morning and was the result of a tip from troopers at the Shelburne Falls barracks.
State police said that officers arrested Laura St. John, 26, who was driving the vehicle, and passenger Stephanie Wheeler, 40, on charges that include trafficking heroin.
Both women are being held on $25,000 bail.
Police said it was a collaborative effort between state, Athol and Orange police departments.
