Main Street Bar & Grille scored 13 times in the sixth inning to put away Mike’s Bears en route to a 28-15 victory in the first game of the double-elimination Greenfield Co-Rec Adult Softball League playoffs Tuesday night at Hillside Park in Greenfield.
Main Street is the top seed in the A Division but had to survive a scare from eighth-seeded Mike’s Bears, which held a 12-10 lead into the fifth inning. Main Street jumped out to a 10-1 lead after the first inning but Mike’s came back to take the lead before Main Street scored five in the fifth and 13 in the sixth.
Nate Pecor went 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles in the win, and Kelly Markol, Bill Butynski and Don Mailloux each had three hits.
Main Street advances in the winners’ bracket and will face fourth-seeded and defending champion Beck’s Automotive on Saturday.
Mitch Mailloux went 3-for-3 with a home run in the loss, and Pat Viencek had three hits.
• In other action, Uriah Bartlett went 4-for-4 with a home run, two doubles and five RBIs to lead A-Division fourth-seed Beck’s Automotive to a 20-5 win over fifth-seeded Turners Falls Pizza House at Unity Park in turners Falls.
Alan Mailloux went 4-for-4 with a home run in the win, Sunny Lucas went 3-for-4, and Jessica Bartlett had three hits.
Tim Sevrens and Donnalee Bettencourt each finished 2-for-3 in the loss.
• Also, Ben Banash had four hits, including a home run, and three RBIs to help B-Division top seeded Shelburne Eagles to a 24-7 win over Riff’s Tavern at Unity Park.
Stephen Smith, Zeb Crossman and Mike Scofield each added four hits in the win, and Maura Crossman went 3-for-4 with two doubles.
Matt Orrell went 3-for-3 in the loss, and Morghan Orrell went 2-for-3.
• Finally, Joe Guidaboni went 3-for-3 with a double, and Leanne Emond had a pair of hits to help Mesa Verde to a 16-12 win over RG Penfield at Greenfield Middle School.
Brian Winslow had two hits and two RBIs in the win, and Stephanie Winslow had two hits and one RBI.
Nick Aldrich went 4-for-4 with a triple for RG Penfield, Tyler Leroux had three hits including a triple, and Donna Tanner had two hits.
Wooden Racket semis
It will be an all-Brian finale in the Wooden Racket Tennis Tournament after Brian Campbell and Brian Lamore won their semifinal matches Tuesday night at Beacon Field Tennis Courts in Greenfield.
Campbell punched his ticket with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Field Maloney in one semifinal, while Lamore defeated Patrick Roche, 7-6 (7-2), 6-2 in the other semifinal.
The two men will square off in tonight’s championship match beginning at 5:30 at Beacon Field.
Matt’s Men’s League
George Handschuh shot a 37 to win low gross during the Matt’s Men’s League at Thomas Memorial Golf & Country Club in Turners Falls on Tuesday.
Bill Kimball won low net with a 28. Matt Betsold was closest to the pin on No. 7 at 5 feet, 11 inches, and Ken Adams was closest on No. 9 at 20-3.
The team of Alfie Mitchell and John Passiglia tied Adams and Jeff Miller for most points on the week with six.
Mitchel and Passiglia lead the league with 29½ points, while Jon Hall and Noah Wallace are tied with Bob White and Bill Kimball for second with 25 points. Jim Whitney and Wendell Barton, Wayne DeGrenier and Andy Wyngowski and Handschuh and Jon Snow are all tied for fourth with 22½ points.
Erving League
Ben Herk and Lloyd Grover shot a 36 to win low gross during the Erving League Tuesday night at the Northfield Golf Course.
Rodney Ebbighausen and Ken Dixon won low net with a 29. Duff Delano was closest to the pin on No. 6 at 13-6, while Jack Letourneau was closest on No. 7 at 13-4. Herk was the match medalist with a 38 and is leading the race for the Erving Cup with 28 points.
Women’s 18-hole
Kathy Fahey, Dianne Wood, Sue McDonald and Anne McHugh shot a 117 to win the Women’s 18-Hole Golf League at the Country Club of Greenfield on Tuesday.
The league took the two best net scores of the foursome.
Mary McNally, Maureen Barclay, Michele Hazlett and Phyllis Canon came in second with a 119.
Edge Hill Men’s
Mark Graves shot a low-gross 39 and won the point quota at plus-2 in the A Division of the Edge Hill Golf Course Men’s League Tuesday in Ashfield.
Mark Vandale won low net with a 35. Mark Eaton was closest to the pin on No. 16 at 13-5.
Paul Champigny won low gross in the B Division. Brett Sallee won low net (no score reported) and won the point quota at plus-2½.
District 7 takes second
The District 7 Under-17 girls’ soccer team finished second in the Massachusetts Youth Soccer Association Tournament over the weekend in Lancaster.
The state is divided into seven districts and local players Katherine Byrnes (Deerfield), Elaine LaBarbara (Deerfield) and Angela Self (Conway) all played on the team, which was coached by Jenn Self of Conway.
District 7 went 3-1-1 in the tournament to qualify for the championship game and played to a 2-2 draw with District 2 before going to penalty kicks to decide the champion. District 2 won it in the shootout.
Turners Falls football meeting
The Turners Falls High School football team will hold a Parents Meeting on Aug. 18 at 5:30 p.m. in the high school auditorium. Equipment will be issued immediately following the meeting.
The first two days of practice will be on Aug. 19 and Aug. 20 and will start both days at 3:30.
