HOLYOKE — Five people were injured after a motorist caused a series of accidents in Holyoke over the weekend that ignited his own vehicle and sent another hurtling into a home.
Police say the incident began when a man driving at a high rate of speed struck another car on Northampton Street around 4:30 p.m. Sunday.
The driver fled the scene and struck a motorcyclist and another vehicle about a mile away. Police say the driver then hit another vehicle, which sent it into the front of a home near Northampton Street’s intersection with Woods Avenue.
The mayhem concluded when the motorist struck a telephone pole. His engine had caught fire at some point during the series of collisions.
The extent of the victims’ injuries is unknown. The case remains under investigation.
PRINCETON — Investigators say a New York City woman who disappeared on a walk while visiting her mother in Massachusetts has been found slain in the woods.
Worcester District Attorney Joseph Early Jr. said Monday that 27-year-old Vanessa Marcotte was reported missing after failing to return from a Sunday afternoon walk in Princeton.
Her body was found Sunday night by a state police canine unit about a half-mile from her mother’s home. Authorities say her death appears to be a homicide. An autopsy is scheduled.
