WHATELY — A man whose car flipped over after hitting a utility pole on the side of Routes 5 & 10 Tuesday afternoon appeared to be stable when taken to the hospital, police said.
Whately Police Sgt. Don Bates got the call about the accident at 2:58 p.m. The driver, a Deerfield man whose name was not immediately available, was taken to Cooley Dickinson Hospital in Northampton for treatment.
Bates said the driver, who was wearing a seat belt, did not appear to have any major injuries. No one else was involved in the accident.
Bates said the driver pulled himself out of the car after the accident.
The overturned Honda Pilot was flipped over off the side of the road about 50 yards past the parking lot for Muffin’s General Market, its front half flattened. Police at the scene said the driver was northbound when the accident happened.
South County Emergency Medical Services also came to the scene to treat the driver.
