5:30 p.m. — Larceny reported by a caller from Wheeler Avenue advising that she had $40 stolen from her, when she was shopping at Wal-Mart about 45 minutes ago; the reporting person said she already spoke with store security, and the officer, who was already at the store, went inside to speak to the supervisor; situation under investigation.
6:15 p.m. — Shoplifting reported at Wal-Mart and an officer is requested for the person in custody; arrested was Joseph Francis Thibeault, 53, of Crescent Street, Athol, charged with shoplifting $100-plus by concealing merchandise, attempting to commit a crime, and conspiracy. A second male, a 60-year-old man from Daniel Shays Highway, is being summoned to court for conspiracy.
7:53 p.m. — Control took a call from Pleasant Street from a motorist who reported a bear in the area; gone on arrival of police.
1:48 p.m. — Caller reported a stolen cell phone at the intersection of Main Street and Federal Street.
6:16 p.m. — Caller reported a stolen purse at St. James Church, located at 8 Church St. Witnesses reported seeing a female with brown, shoulder-length hair wearing a white tank top and black pants who stole the purse during communion. The female allegedly fled south on Federal Street. Witnesses believe two other females that did not stay at the church service long may have scouted the service and given word for the third female to grab the purse.
7:18 p.m. — Suspicious activity was reported at 82 Federal St. when a caller found a black and blue backpack and a pink and brown diaper bag under his vehicle. The area was closed off and a bomb squad was requested, arriving at the scene at 8:54 p.m. Because of a similar call received at 12:38 p.m .— when a caller reported finding a black bag containing books and a laptop under his/her vehicle at 181 Davis St. — the incident was considered suspicious. The bags were both deemed safe and brought to the Greenfield Police Department, where police found the owner’s information and left a voicemail concerning the found property.
9:05 a.m. — Officer was flagged down by a motorist stating there is a small child outside an East Main Street location, banging on the door, looking to get in; on arrival, officers found the child had ventured outside while mom was doing the dishes; the front door was opened and the child returned home.
10:28 a.m. — Control advised they got a call from a person on east Main Street, stating it appears someone kicked one of the doors to one of the vehicle’s he has for sale; on arrival the reporting person stated he wanted it on record and requested extra patrols.
10:30 p.m. — Walk-in reporting an underage drinking party on Hayden Street; reported was unfounded; but while officers were investigating, a 15-year-old youth was found and placed under arrest on a straight juvenile warrant.
10:29 a.m. — Walk-in reports a bicyclist struck his van, result in damage to the vehicle, and then left the scene; the reporting person identified the bicyclist and didn’t notice the damage until later, the reporting person indicates that the bike was damaged due to the collision and couldn’t be ridden.
11:40 a.m. — Report of a threat made at Main and Wells streets where the male approached a furniture store sign holder, and reportedly pushed him; the male was located at the library and identified; he denied he pushed anyone; he claimed the sign holder asked him what he was looking at; the male moved along.
4:05 p.m. — Request for a welfare check at Princeton Terrace and a reporting person stated the involved female was just dropped off at that location with a bloody nose; the reporting person stated the female is now inside slamming her sliding door, and possibly trying to lock it; officers sent, and then Medcare was requested, and the female was placed under Section 12, and transported to Baystate Franklin Medical Center.
6:19 p.m. — Caller from Davis Street reports a sinkhole forming about six feet into the roadway; officer checked, and found a large sinkhole, and the DPW was advised.
6:54 p.m.— Caller from near the covered bridge on Eunice Williams Drive reports that the barriers there have been moved, and several vehicles are parked beyond the barriers, down by the water; officer checked the area, and found no problems.
7:42 p.m. — Caller from Newcomb Lane would like to speak to an officer about his girlfriend locking him out of the house and not answering his calls; subject stated he was sectioned earlier, and is now home, and locked out of the house, because no one is home, and his keys are locked inside; he is concerned because the air conditioner isn’t on, and the dogs are inside; he was advised he could try to gain access to his own place if he needed to, but that the Police Department wouldn’t break in for him; the subject also wanted to complain to the dispatcher about his police services earlier in the day, and he was referred to the sergeant during the call.
9:49 p.m. — Caller from Devens Street reports a loud TV at this location , investigation leads to summons for a 23-year-old male for larceny over $250.
1:22 p.m. — Fire alarm activation on Avenue A where an officer and Turners Falls Fire Department were en route, and the Fire Department determined the alarm was set off by burnt food; fire alarm panel was reset.
8:40 p.m. — Reporting person requesting an officer to speak with her mother on Eighth Avenue regarding the mother refusing to allow the 23-year-old daughter, and reporting person, to take her car out of town; the caller advised there has been arguing going on with the mother recently; officer advised the reporting person of her options.
1:28 p.m. — Officer wanted at East Main and Eddy streets from where Control received a call stating there is a small child playing in the yard at this address and is unsupervised; on arrival the officer found the child was playing with other children and the father was in the area.
5:45 p.m. — Control got a call that a gang of kids were going to beat up the caller; on officer’s arrival, the reporting person stated that he had an altercation with another youth two weeks ago in the hallway, both punched one another; he had no idea who the subject is and will call if he learns his name.
8 p.m. — Caller from Tully Road requests we check a family member who may be in crisis and possibly intoxicated; he was located and transported to the Athol Hospital by Orange Fire Department EMS; vehicle was removed by the duty wrecker and the plates were seized. the reporting person was notified of the results.
8:30 p.m. — General disturbance reported on Cheney Street from where Control received a report of a Hispanic male without a shirt, walking up the street, yelling that three of his sons have just died, and he wanted to kill people; All units tied up, and state police also unavailable; the call was handled by Erving, Northfield and Templeton Police, and one of our officers joined them as soon as he cleared; the reporting person was spoken with and reported that a family was walking in the area, turned and went the other way when the reporting person came out from between some houses; the neighborhood and surrounding area were canvassed and the person was not located.
1:53 a.m. — Disturbance reported on Leyden Road, across the street from the reporting person; officer sent, and then cleared and advised the noise is actually a bird, chirping.
5:19 a.m.— Report of a shoplifting incident at CVS on Federal Street where the reporting person sated a customer reported they saw a white male stealing items in the store; the reporting person said he is wearing a black and white T-shirt with a short buzz cut hair; the reporting person’s fellow employee said he was there earlier in the night, stealing items as well; the subject was verbally trespassed and told not to come back; the subject admitted to stealing body spray; it was returned and the staff was advised of options; the male subject was verbally trespassed for the day.
6:10 a.m. — Caller from Wells Street reporting her upstairs neighbors are fighting and causing a disturbance; officer sent, and the person was advised to lower the noise; found no fighting or arguing taken place, but they were advised of the complaint.
6:48 a.m. — Officer checking on a male sleeping near the town hall; the male was moved along.
6:52 a.m. — Report of a stop sign that was likely struck and is now into traffic at the Route 47/63 crossover; Mass Highway was contacted; Mass. DOT checked the area, and advised no signs were observed laying in the road, but one of the signs was bent; he checked the sign, and it is securely in the ground; no further action needed.
9:15 a.m. — Walk-in from O Street requests extra patrol in area of her residence and states that between 10 p.m. and midnight on more than one occasions, her family has heard people by the back fence, and then the following morning discovered drug paraphernalia had been thrown over her fence, into her yard; officer advised her of options, and that officers could conduct extra patrols in that area.
11:55 a.m. — Larceny reported by a woman from Hillside Park and Grove Street where she reports her purse was stolen from her motor vehicle at this location; the officer found the theft occurred about an hour before the call; report issued.
4:59 p.m. — Larceny reported at the Greenfield Cooperative Bank on Federal Street; officer responded, but no details noted in the log.
5:02 p.m. — Despondent person reported at the Miles Street apartments where the caller states he is feeling suicidal, and says he hasn’t harmed himself, but has been drinking heavily; officers escorted the male downstairs, and will transport him to Baystate Franklin Medical Center; they provided the transport when the Section 12 process was ready.
5:44 p.m. — Report of a despondent person on High Street where the reporting person says there is a white female with long black hair out in front of his home holding a bag, and she is talking to herself; officer spoke with Clinical and Support Options, which stated they had no open beds and nothing they could do for her; officer provided the female with directions to downtown; she refused our services.
10:02 p.m. — Larceny reported on Chapman Street where the caller says somebody came into her home and stole her PS4; she called back to tell us that she may know who it was who has stolen the Playstation; officers were currently tied up, but she will be hearing from them at their soonest convenience.
11:07 p.m. — Despondent person reported on Bank Row where the caller says a female is trying to commit suicide by cutting her wrists; officer reports the female has slight lacerations on her arms, but the knife is now in the officer’s possession; Medcare then loaded the patient for transport to the Baystate Franklin Medical Center, and a Section 12 paper process was completed.
9:10 a.m. — Officer was flagged down by someone reporting a bear at Turnpike Road and Walnut Street, last seen walking on Turnpike Road toward the direction of Sandy Lane. Second report came in that the bear was last seen on Letourneau Way in area of the high-tension lines; officer was notified.
11:18 a.m.— Larceny reported on Third Street where the reporting person states she just returned home and had her medications in her purse; the reporting person dropped her purse and an unknown black male stole all of her medications; he left on foot; this happened about two hours ago; two officers in downtown area but they didn’t see anyone downtown matching the description.
12:45 p.m. — Caller from Randall Wood Drive reports his daughter’s bicycle was stolen; he is at work at this time and requested a call from an officer; officer called and took the report.
2:16 p.m. — Call from a reporting person who expressed concern that there might be contamination in the water at Cranberry Pond; the reporting person was kayaking at the pond earlier this afternoon, and saw at least 15 dead fish, all in a concentrated area; the reporting person advised she is an avid kayaker, and has never seen this before; the fish appeared to have a rash or some other abnormal issue with their scales; the reporting person carefully bagged some of the fish, and left them at the door of the Fish Hatchery in Montague, with a note explaining the situation; Shelburne Control was advised, and will notify Fish and Wildlife.
4:53 p.m. — Reporting person from Seventh Street reports she arrived at her cousin’s residence to check for children’s scooters; when she walked around back she noticed one of the windows on her cousin’s van was smashed, and the back door to the house appeared to be partially opened; the reporting person didn’t go inside, and has touched nothing; she is in the driveway at this time, and will wait for an officer to respond; she did make contact with her cousin who is still in Maine; officer on the scene and believed it to be vandalism only; the officer walked through the residence with the reporting person, and checked the van, and she doesn’t noticed anything missing; the cousin will be back Tuesday; she was advised to contact police if anything is missing.
7:52 p.m. — Reporting person of 911 wireless line requests an officer as there is a male banging on the windows to this Powertown Apartments location, and threatening to punch the reporting person in the face; the reporting person is with her mom and her boyfriend, and all three are currently hiding in the bathroom as they are afraid; officers responded and spoke to the reporting person who said the male had left the area, and the officers will bolo the area.
11:25 p m. — Walk-in person came into the lobby requesting options in regards to a tax demand document that was delivered to her home for a male for whom she has an active restraining order against; officer was advised and came and spoke with the reporting person; she was advised to call the number on the tax demand document and advise that the male no longer resides at the residence any longer.
7:03 a.m. — Shelburne Control reports an alarm activation on Spring Street where the reporting person has locked themselves in the bedroom and it is believed someone is inside; officers responded, and investigation revealed that somehow a neighborhood cat gained entry into the residence, set off the alarm, and was being verbal; the intruder was released back into the neighborhood without incident.
11:02 a.m. — Control reports that it received a report of a past breaking and entering, and larceny, on Winter Street; under investigation.
1:55 p.m. — Breaking and entering reported on Dexter Street where the caller reports a shed at the back of the school was broken into and all the small colored balls were thrown out onto the property; the reporting person wants this on record, and extra patrols needed.
3:40 p.m. — Control got a report of a tree down in Haskins Road; officer was able to move most of it to the side of the road with assistance from a couple of passing motorists; the Orange Highway Department was contacted and will respond to remove the rest.
9 p.m. — Officer made an arrest of Tyler James Pecor, 22, of East River Street, Orange, on a warrant.
1:39 a.m. — Suspicious activity reported in area of School Street where the caller says a female is on her porch knocking on doors; officers responded, and the female was told to cease knocking on random peoples doors, and she was moved along.
8:41 a.m. — Caller from Chapman Street reports the neighbor there keeps riding a four-wheeler on the property out back; the officer found a known male riding around on the four-wheeler between 6 and 9 p. m. and possibly on railroad property; the reporting person was advised to contact dispatch when it is happening.
10:32 a.m. — Report of a shoplifting at Big Y Foods on the Mohawk Trail; officer to investigate.
11:32 a.m. — Officer assisting a citizen with firearms being surrendered for destruction; services rendered.
1:03 p.m. — Accident reported at Main and Federal streets where a youth was struck, with a bicycle, but no injury, visible or reported; the operator of the vehicle ensured the youth was OK; turned out the youth was walking across Main, when he was struck by a vehicle whose light turned green; the bicycle was damaged but no damage to the vehicle, the operator was advised, and issued a citation.
1:32 p.m. — Caller would like an officer regarding a purse she left at Taco Bell, which an employee said would be returned, but has not yet been done; officer confirmed the purse was at the restaurant, and the reporting person will return to the restaurant to acquire the purse.
3:09 p.m. — Shoplifting at Big Y Foods on the Mohawk Trail; officer to investigate, and then assisted loss prevention in searching the person, and removing her from the property.
3:34 p.m. — Caller from Miles Street requests that police check on a person where the caller says a white female has been walking around in the road and parking lot area for about two hours; offices sent, and found the female was homeless and was hanging out in a public area; no police needed.
5:17 p.m. — Report of a wire hanging very low on Alden Street; found to be a Comcast wire, and Comcast was notified.
6:43 p.m. — Welfare check requested on Deerfield Street from where a 911 caller says a man seems intoxicated and may have urinated on himself; he is sitting on the sidewalk; officer and Medcare responded and the patient was taken to Baystate Franklin Medical Center, by Medcare.
6:57 p.m. — Officer serving a warrant at the Franklin County Emergency Shelter on Wells Street; subject was located, and arrested was Bruce Hatt, 46, of Wells Street, Greenfield, on being a fugitive from justice on a court warrant,
7:08 p.m. — Caller from Water Street says that somebody dumped their trash on her lawn, and the trash has the persons name on it; officer spoke to the involved person to whom the trash belonged, and he agreed to pick it up.
8:40 p.m. — A 911 caller states she found two little girls who live nearby on Cleveland Street, out on their porch crying; when the reporting person asked what was wrong, they said they couldn’t find their daddy; while on the phone the caller walked with the girls around the house looking for him, they found him upstairs in bed; he seemed, “out of it”; officers arrived and Medcare was called; the father stated the kids were watching TV and he fell asleep; the male declined medical care as being evaluated by Medcare
10:37 p.m. — Suspicious activity reported at the F. L. Roberts gas station on Main Street where the caller says it is a possible intoxicated drive; a green Pontiac; officer responded, and a PBT test was taken, and showed below the legal limit; the registered owner was advised not to operate her motor vehicle for a while; she agreed to keep it parked at this location until she sobered more.
8:58 a.m. — Report of a disabled vehicle at Turners Falls Road and Dell Street; officer found that the person had a flat tire, and got it to the side of the road.
10:37 a.m. — Walk-in reports suspicious activity on Turners Falls Road where she told the officer about a male that has been peering into windows of his neighbors among other behaviors, and making inappropriate comments to them, the officer took the report.
6:48 p.m. — Caller from area of Greenfield and Hatchery roads where the reporting person is complaining about sound of gunshots, possibly target practice, and is concerned that this activity in illegal; officer advised it most likely the sound are coming from the rod and gun club, and will check the area; no police service needed.
8:48 p.m. — Larceny report on K Street where the caller wants to report a stolen refrigerator; the landlord called in to request an investigation for this; officer investigating.
9:23 a.m. — Control advised that the Fire Department is responding to Howe Street for an alarm; on arrival of an officer the smoke was found to be from burnt waffles in the oven; the home was ventilated.
9:32 a.m. — Control took a call from a reporting person on West Main Street, reporting her apartment was entered while she was gone, and there are items missing; officer sent, and report issued.
1:50 a.m. — Suspicious activity at the church parking lot on Silver Street where officers found the registered owner of the vehicle reports they are homeless and have exhausted their efforts to seek alternative housing; same indicates that she has permission from the church to stay there.
5:26 a.m. — Accident reported on Lampblack Road where the caller reports it with no injuries; officer found it to be a deer struck the vehicle, but no deer on the scene; the reporting person states the deer ran into the driver’s side of the vehicle, damaging both doors and the rear quarter panel; damage was found to be consistent with that of an animal strike; the reporting person stated the deer ran off.
7:38 a.m. — An accident at the Route 2 bypass; a caller reports she struck a deer on the bypass, but no hazard; she is now at work. she was advised to fill out a proper form and report the accident to her insurance company.
8:33 a.m. — Accident at Beacon and North streets officer sent, and Medcare notified, and the officer found the subject vehicle had a fair amount of road trash; the operator was transported around the corner to the ER at the hospital.
8:57 a.m. — Reporting person stated a known person has been making irrational statements recently, and indirectly threatened undercover GreenfieldPolice officers; the reporting person requested a call back from an officer with which to share information on the email, sent to the subject’s sister in Florida. She fears he is off his meds, and may try to harm a police officer; units were advised.
9:19 a.m. — Caller from Orchard Street reports a breaking and entering; officer to investigate, items have been stolen from the house, and this took place within the past seven days; officer found the house is vacant, and a neighbor reports a cream-colored pickup truck was in the driveway yesterday afternoon, and two heavy set white male were seen in the vehicle, the front door was forced, and water heater, and push wood chipper were taken.
1:14 a.m. — Officer is out at Heat Fab Division of Selkirk Group in the Industrial Boulevard, and he found two open doors at the rear of the building, entry made, and found five workers working late tonight. officer cleared.
3:07 a.m. — Motor vehicle stopped on Daniel Shay’s Highway for speeding, at 58 MPH in a 45 MPH zone; the operator was issued a verbal warning; he provided a Jamaican driver’s license; he was advised that if he is going to be a permanent resident that he would have to obtain a Massachusetts driver’s license.
