Adam Hinds, a Democratic candidate for the state Senate seat from the Berkshire, Hampshire, Franklin and Hampshire District, has been endorsed by former Congressman John W. Olver.
“Today I am thrilled to endorse Adam Hinds for state Senate,” said Olver, the Amherst Democrat who retired from Congress in 2013 and was a state senator from 1973 to 1991. Hinds served as Olver’s 1998 campaign field director and 2000 campaign manager.
“Having spent a lifetime in public service to western Massachusetts, I understand the amount of time and effort that it takes to advocate for this region. I served in the Massachusetts Legislature for more than two decades and I know what it takes to make Beacon Hill pay attention to the needs of this region. Adam Hinds is remarkably capable, and will be the strongest voice and most powerful advocate for western Massachusetts. Adam understands the many challenges we face in this region, and has what it takes to bring resources back to the district.”
Olver added, “I believe that public service is about helping people, the opportunity to do what is right, and improving the everyday lives of families in Massachusetts. Adam embodies these values in every aspect of his life, from his early political work to the years he spent in service at the U.N., to his community work in Pittsfield and North Adams.”
Hinds said that Olver’s “work in service to western Massachusetts, the Commonwealth, and our country has done so much to improve the lives of students, working families, and veterans. He’s the workhorse, and I hope to embody that determined approach to serving the region.
Hinds, who is running in the Senate district that includes Ashfield, Conway, Shelburne, Buckland, Charlemont, Hawley, Heath, Rowe and Monroe in Franklin County, has also been endorsed by North Adams’ Mayor Richard “Dick” Alcombright and Pittsfield School Committee Chair Katherine Yon.
