Orange, July 12

11:30 a.m. — Caller from East Main Street reports there is a man with a sign outside of Wal-Mart, with a dog, that the reporting person is requesting be checked; officer responded and found the canine was in good shape.

1:30 p.m. — Caller reporting a canine in distress in a white van at Wal-Mart; officer checked and the vehicle was gone before officer’s arrival.

3:35 p.m. — Accident reported on South Main Street where an officer on patrol observed a tractor-trailer unit scrape a traffic light; report taken.

4:30 p.m. — Montague Police requesting officers BOLO for a subject who was involved in a breaking and entering, in their town; vehicle stopped traveling west on East Main Street; Montague brought the homeowner for identification; positive ID, and subject was arrested on the probable cause to arrest for Montague; Michael D. Chamberlain, 27, of Oaklawn Avenue, Athol, on the breaking and entering, charge, and charges are pending in Orange for motor vehicle infractions.

5:50 p.m. — Control took a report of a male who was walking around the area where the truck was just towed, and he picked up something off the ground; officer spoke with the person involved, who said he picked up a scratch ticket to see if it was a winner.

Greenfield, July 13

1:15 a.m. — Disturbance reported on Chapman Street near Main Street where the caller says a verbal and physical altercation is happening between two males and reports one of them is intoxicated and is attacking the other male; the reporting person stayed on the line until officers arrived on scene; no weapons were stated to be involved.

11:02 a.m. — Accident reported at the Mohawk Trail and River Street, minor damage, two vehicles involved, but no injuries reported; services rendered.

12:55 p.m. — Report of found property at the U.S. Post Office on Main Street; it was a pink, women’s wallet; brought to the police station.

Montague, July 13

7:54 a.m. — Box alarm sounding from Powertown Apartments on Avenue A; Turners Falls Fire Department, en route, and an officer was sent; burnt food was determined as the source.

5:02 p.m. — Accident reported at Foster’s Supermarket on Allen Street where initially there were no injuries reported, but later at the station the officer requested Medcare for one operator reporting back pain; was taken to Baystate Franklin Medical Center; minor fender bender but the operator was shaken up and confused; her husband in Shelburne was notified.

7:15 p.m. — Hazard reported on Lampblack Road where the caller reports a tree in the road; fire command reports a large tree on primary wires; Eversource has been notified, the problem was cleared by them when they arrived.

7:54 p.m. — Report of an incident involving a runaway; Webster Police asking us to check an address for the runaway; officers sent to Forbes Court and then to Bayberry Court where the black male was located and brought to the station; Webster Police were notified and they will contact the parents to have them respond to pick him up in Greenfield.

8:21 p.m. — Hazard reported on Homestead Avenue where the reporting person states there is a transformer leaking oil from a pole; Eversource was notified; no police action required.

8:32 p.m. — Report of an elderly couple locked out of the apartment at Oak Courts; dispatch contacted maintenance to unlock the door.

10:08 p.m. — Accident reported on Barton Road with single vehicle involved, but no injuries reported; officer sent, and report taken.

Montague, July 13

12:10 p.m. — Unwanted person reported at Powertown Apartments on Avenue A where the property manager requests officer to respond to assist a tenant with an unwanted male; the reporting person stated the tenant is uncomfortable with the person being there, and was supposedly threatening him and refusing to leave; officers sent, and then they cleared; the male is there with the tenant and the tenant is fine with that; the unwanted people were the two females who had already left; both the reporting person and the tenant was advised of their options.

1:28 p.m. — Caller from Fourth Street reports a needle almost in the middle of the road in front of the caller’s location; officer was notified and found that the item in the middle of the road was a twistable Crayola crayon, not a needle; the officer picked it up and disposed of it.

2:22 p.m. — Larceny reported from the Bookmill on Greenfield Road where the caller says the vehicle was broken into where it was parked in the upper lot; the incident occurred within the past two hours; officer investigating.

4:35 p.m. — Reporting person came into the lobby to speak with an officer regarding identify theft; officer took the report.

11:13 p.m. — Male 911 cell phone caller reports an accident involving a car versus a deer; and mapped as being on Turners Falls Road; officer on scene, and a tow truck was requested; the vehicle was removed, and units cleared; no report on the deer.

Orange, July 13

1:05 a.m. — Caller from East River Street reports her 14-year-old daughter is missing, officer took the report.

1:10 a.m. — Caller from East Main Street told Control that the female states someone was knocking on her door; officer responded and spoke to the reporting person and she stated she was OK.

12:54 p.m. — Caller from Cottage Street reports he had four fishing rods stolen out of his boat overnight; his boat is in his backyard; he said kids cut through his yard a lot, and must have seen them in the boat; report taken, under investigation.

1:42 p.m. — Reporting person called from Nina Pierce Circle says her apartment had been broken into and items are missing; officer investigating.

2:04 p.m. — Accident with injury at Holtshire Road and West River Street, from where the reporting person says that yesterday about 2:30 p.m., he was on his bike on West River Street and turned into Holtshire Road and slid in the loose gravel and went down; he injured his arms, chest, and knees, hip, hands and face, and damaged about $250 worth of the bike, clothing and unknown damage to the bike at this time; he saw the sign saying loose gravel, but doesn’t feel it is sufficient; he was advised to contact the Orange Highway Department regarding signage; he wanted to know how to get reimbursement for his gear; he was advised to contact the town administrator.

7 p.m. — Reporting person states he found his passenger side rear window was broken, the vehicle was parked at Muzzy Field; he wanted this on record for insurance purposes.

Greenfield, July 14

9:18 a.m. — Caller from the Mohawk Trail reports his firearms were stolen from a secured room in his house at some point during the past week; officer sent and spoke with the reporting person; a breaking and entering, and larceny of firearms is involved, report issued.

10:11 a.m. — Caller from Arch Street requests to speak to an officer about her daughter attempting to break into her house and steal her money during the past two nights; reports have already been filed with an officer and she was referred to that officer.

11:22 a.m. — Report of a breaking and entering, at the Miles Street Hotel apartments; officer to investigate.

11:26 a.m. A walk-in surrendered an unwanted firearm; to be disposed of.

11:48 a.m. — Accident reported on Abbott Street two vehicles involved, one vehicle rear-ended a parked vehicle, but no injuries reported; officer investigating.

2:40 p.m. — Accident reported at the Dollar Tree on the Mohawk Trail, with two vehicles involved; a minivan struck a parked pickup; information was exchanged.

2:41 p.m. — Welfare check requested on Forest Avenue where the caller reports his daughter observed her friend make a suicidal comment on social media; officer spoke to the involved youth, and found he was depressed when he posted on Instagram, but since then is feeling better and nothing is needed; the situation wasn’t as first reported and the officer spoke to both the youth and family.

2:45 p.m. — Caller from ServiceNet facility on High Street reports a client has barricaded herself in a room and is being destructive; the involved person came out of her room on officer’s request and spoke with the program staff; peace was restored.

2:46 p.m. — Caller that reported the accident at the Dollar Tree parking area also now reports an infant was left in a parked car at this location; the baby has since been taken into Staples by parent.

3:59 p.m. — Report that a motor vehicle has been repossessed at Koch’s Automotive on Main Street.

4:16 p.m. — Hold up or panic alarm going off at People’s United Bank on Federal Street where the dispatch made a call to a bank employee who didn’t know the answer to the question we ask in these situations; she then put somebody else on the line who did know; determined to be accidentally set off by new employee.

4:39 p.m.— Accident reported at the Interstate 91 rotary, but with no injuries reported; vehicles gone on arrival.

5:42 p.m. — Traffic stop at Cleveland and Federal streets where investigation leads to arrest of Scott S. Merritt Jr., 20, of Northfield Road, Bernardston, charged with operating with revoked license, and motor vehicle lights violation.

6:29 p.m. — Report of a wire down on Turners Falls Road where he caller says a tree came down and hit his house, tearing wires off the house; and the tree is on the lines; officer found the main supply wire to the residence was knocked down onto the residence; fire command then report a secondary line to the resident is down under a large oak tree; Eversource called and later on the scene.

6:34 p.m. — Accident at the Mohawk Trail and Colrain Road; two vehicles involved, and both had to be towed; report issued.

8:56 p.m. —Caller from Miles Street apartments says a man is yelling at a female in the hallway and trying to get her back into his apartment; officers responded and found the male was trying to get the girl out of his apartment; the female was gone on arrival of police, and officers were then unable to locate the female; no active disturbance.

9:16 p.m. — Request for a welfare check on Wells Street where the male has been calling Clinical and Support Options screaming and carrying on; they are concerned about his mental health; officer found normal mental state for the involved male; nothing needed.

10:07 p.m. — Report of a fist fight in the parking lot of Wendy’s Restaurant on Federal Street; the reporting person states there were two males fighting in the drive-thru area of the parking lot; while on the phone, one male started to walk away; officer requested Medcare to the scene; officer reporting one male in custody; and then they obtained victim and witness statements; the female there called and said the male took her gray purse and she isn’t sure of where it is; officer advised the male involved isn’t giving information of the location; female advised it may be behind Wendy’s somewhere; arrested was Manuel Bauza, 58, of Riverside Drive, Greenfield, charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, to wit, and assault and battery on a family or household member.

10:10 p.m. — Caller from Bank Row reports a female is attempting suicide right now, in front of him; on officers arrival they located the female who attempted to harm herself, the male was moved to a safe area, and the officers de-escalated the situation; the female then was convinced to go to the hospital; transported to Baystate Franklin Medical Center.

Montague, July 14

2:59 a.m. — Female caller reporting someone rang her doorbell on Turnpike Road just before calling the 911 line; the reporting person states that no one was seen, and she requests officer do an area check; the area was checked, with no findings.

2:29 p.m. — Larceny reported by a woman who told an officer that someone has been stealing flag holders from grave sites in St. Mary’s Cemetery; officer checked the area and will conduct extra patrols.

3 p.m. — Reporting person called complaining about neighbors being racist toward her and her children; advised to contact the Police Department when there is a problem occurring.

4:39 p.m. — Caller from Turners Falls Road reports his children’s bikes were being stolen; one is a 20-inch neon pink and green, and the other one is an 18-inch, black and red, Darth Maul theme, and both have pegs on them and the smaller one may have had a helmet with it as well; the helmet had a Mohawk on it; the caller was advised to contact police if he sees the bikes, police will watch for them, and this will be on record.

6:11 p.m. — Caller from X Street requests a patrol unit to the area; Arrested was Kwaum J. Rivera, 42, of Fifth Street, Turners Falls, operating with suspended license.

Orange, July 14

2:55 p.m. — Larceny reported from Orange Airport where the reporting person says he had a red Honda XR80 stolen Monday night; he will look for a VIN in his paperwork.

4:34 p.m. — Athol Police looking for assistance to a possible domestic incident on Freedom Street in their town with a male holding a knife; on arrival it was found that no knife was present, and peace was restored.

7:10 p.m. — Control report Orange Fire Department is responding for a lightening strike and a fire in a tree on East River Street; on arrival the fire was out; the Fire Department arrived and wet it down.

11:30 p.m. — Vehicle stopped for marked lanes violation, on East Main Street, the owner/operator had trouble navigating the road due to heavy fog; no signs of impairment, verbal warning issued.

Greenfield, July 15

1:04 a.m. — Bar check on Fiske Avenue at the Allure Night Club.

1:43 a.m. — Traffic stop on the Mohawk Trail near McDonald’s having followed a vehicle driving erratically; negative finding of intoxication; found the operator was driving his girlfriend’s father’s car, which he is unfamiliar with.

8:05 a.m. — Accident at Main and Wells streets; two vehicles, both Toyota Prius, but no injuries reported; Medcare on scene and got signed patient refusal; minor damage and the passenger in the vehicle two complained of pain, but wasn’t transported.

2:58 p.m. – Police were called to Wilson’s Department Store at 258 Main St. following an incident of shoplifting. The suspect was located and will be charged accordingly.

5: 58 p.m. – Robert Tobin, 48, of Greenfield hit a telephone pole on French King Highway near Wunsch Road while driving a 2011 black BMW. The pole snapped and wires fell on top of the vehicle, which was later towed by Byrnes Towing. Tobin suffered no apparent injuries and refused medical attention. Tobin will be issued a citation for a marked lanes violation. Eversource was called to repair the lines, and the road was blocked off to traffic for several hours Friday night.

Montague, July 15

12:59 a.m. — Officer checking with a suspicious vehicle, parked oddly in the Aubuchon Hardware section of the parking lot on Avenue A, running with lights on; officer cleared after learning the operator is homeless, and he was advised to move along.

2:39 a.m. — Clerk at F. L. Roberts gas station/store on Third Street reports a male shoplifter, who came in earlier and stole a bag of candy and then the same male came in just prior to this call and stole two bags of candy; the suspect was dressed in all black and the reporting person knows him to be a local skateboarder; officers were notified.

6:26 a.m. — Caller from Lake Pleasant Road reports a large dead tree is leaning over the road in the area of the entrance to the Ramblers Club facility, and the reporting person states it may be on phone lines; call was placed to the tree warden and he will be en route and will call if utility company is needed; the tree warden advised the tree has been taken care of.

7:45 a.m. — Officer received a citizen complaint reporting of at lease two unregistered vehicles at a Coolidge Avenue residence; officer contacted the residence, and left a message regarding the violation, and will follow up.

Orange, July 15

9:34 a.m. — Caller from Nina Pierce Circle reported he was staying with a friend when her apartment was broken into sometime between July 11 and July 13; his bottle of Oxycodone was stolen, too; it was in a bag in the bedroom with other meds, but nothing else in the bag was taken; there were 50 to 100 tablets in the bottle; the prescription was filled at UMass Memorial with a doctor being the provider; he wanted it on record so he could get a refill.

10:51 a.m. — Tree down across the road in the area of East Road and Wheeler Avenue; on officer’s arrival, the Orange Highway Department was already in the process of removing the tree from the roadway.
