Greenfield, July 11

11:22 a.m. — Accident on Federal Street near Wendy’s restaurant; but no injuries reported; the operator of a second vehicle stated he slowed down to wave to a friend, and collided with the first vehicle, which was stopped; services rendered.

12:45 p.m. — parking enforcement stated there is a verbal altercation going on at the Main and Miles streets location; officers sent and found it was a verbal dispute over a park bench; situation was talked over.

1:26 p.m. — Accident reported at Harrison Avenue and Bernardston Road where the DPW reports a rock, thrown from a mower, struck a passing vehicles window; one person was taken to the hospital to be checked; report taken.

2:21 p.m. — Forbes Court caller says her son was standing out front and heard something whiz by his head, possibly a pellet from a pellet gun; officer investigating and the male youth states he shot his gun out of his bedroom window; same was educated on gun safety, and victim states he doesn’t want to press charges, he just wants the male youth educated on gun safety and an apology. The male youth apologized to the victim; the BB gun was confiscated, and a report will follow.

3:08 p.m. — Report that traffic lights aren’t working at the Route 2 bypass and Adams Road; DPW has been notified to put out 4-way stop signs. officer en route.

3:10 p.m. — Report that traffic lights at Loomis Road and French King Highway are out; DPW en route with signs; and officer assisted directing traffic, and then the lights cycled back on shortly thereafter.

3:43 p.m — Caller reporting children and adults are riding ATV’s out on Kimball Drive; they were advised they are not allowed to ride on town property; they became irate about the situation, and walked the ATV’s home; final warning.

4:54 p.m. — Report of a past breaking and entering, at a Chapman Street location; officer found that a soon-to-be ex-wife forced entry into the reporting person’s apartment, and took a pillow and a sheet; he wanted the incident documented.

5:12 p.m. — Caller from Bicycle World on Federal Street reports a tall white male with face piercing just stole a black BMX bike out of the showroom; the male was further described as about 6 feet tall, 140 pounds, crew cut hair, upper nose piercing, long pants, 17 to 22 years old wearing a shirt; area checked by officers, but couldn’t locate the bike; no video and no other witnesses for follow up.

8:19 p.m. — Caller from area of Allen and Conway streets reports a large fight in progress there; state 911 also called advising they received calls about a gun being waived around as well; on going fight on officers arrival, and those involved were separated; the firearm turned out to be a pellet rifle; it was recovered and seized as evidence; charges filed and the 21-year-old male is being summoned to court, for assault with a dangerous weapon and disorderly conduct.

9:15 p.m. — Suspicious activity reported on Elm Street where the caller says there are two black males, early 20s, smoking something in his driveway; he asked them to leave, but they refused; gone on arrival of police.

11:58 p.m. — Caller from Country Club Road states there is a bat in his house, and he is unable to catch it; officers sent, gone on arrival.

Montague, July 11

8:42 a.m. — Reporting person came into the lobby and spoke with the chief and a detective regarding possible break over the weekend in the elementary schools; the reporting person found a broken skylight at Hillcrest along with footprints on the roof, also found footprints in the gym at Sheffield; officer checking at Sheffield and then headed toward Hillcrest. Still under investigation.

10:07 a.m. — Reporting person requests an officer to report a break in; she states the door is broken in and the apartment appears in disarray; the reporting person stated she has just returned home and was gone for the weekend; found that on a previous call from the Fourth Street location, police were sent to a well being check at this address; the female, now known to have a Leyden Road address in Greenfield, was believed to reside at this apartment and had possibly overdosed; the call shows officers forced entry to check on her; officer went and was able to answer any question the reporting person had; she will be making arrangements with the management, no action needed by police.

2:10 p.m. — Walk in from a different Fourth Street location requested to speak to an officer regarding issues with her neighbors; she reports one neighbor burning cardboard, other constantly having new people moving in and out, and that they packed up all of the last person’s belongings without permission; the reporting person is concerned about these situation; officer was advised and spoke with her about options.

6:06 p.m. — Caller from Turners Falls Road reports he and his wife are receiving threatening texts and calls from his wife’s ex-boyfriend; officer spoke with the caller and will contact the other subject.

9:20 p.m. — Caller from Millers Falls Road reports an odor of smoke in the area and said her neighbor on Norman Circle reports the same, but unknown source; officer found a cooking fire nearby, and the people were advised of the regulations.

11:05 p.m. — Reporting person says there were two or three kids on the roof of the Hillcrest Elementary School on Griswold Street; toward the main entrance of the building; the reporting person shined his flashlight on them and they jumped down and ran toward Keith Street; the reporting person couldn’t get a description of them because they were too far away, but stated it occurred about 10 minutes before he called. Officer then located two people that were walking in the area that weren’t involved, and continued to check the area, but was unable to locate the youths.

11:16 p.m. — Officer located an open door at Sheffield Elementary School on Crocker Avenue; dispatch contacted the alarm company who has been receiving alarms from this location; they were advised officers are there checking the building due to the open door; key holder was contacted and will arrive with ETA of about 10 minutes; building was checked, and the building was secured.

Greenfield, July 12

12:05 a.m. — Officer checking on a person on Main Street; found the person was playing Pokeman Go.

12:12 a.m. — Suspicious activity at the Poet’s Seat Tower; officer found three vehicles with teenagers playing Pokeman Go, they were advised of town park curfews, and moved along.

1:02 a.m. — Suspicious activity at Main and Wells Street; a large group of Pokeman Go players in the middle of the road; they were advised.

2:24 a.m. — Report of an incident involving a runaway from the Starr Program on Park Street where the caller says the white female juvenile was last seen at the intersection of Franklin and Park streets, but unknown direction of travel from there; unable to locate the person involved; the family is in Athol, but couldn’t be located at that time. BOLO sent out to all area sources.

11:01 a.m. — Caller reports a resident is putting a sign in the roadway causing a hazard on Mountain Road; officer sent, and the sign was removed from the roadway and moved to the shoulder.

11:58 a.m. — Disturbance reported on Chapman Street in vicinity of The Salvation Army building and then moved to the area of the Winslow building on Wells Street; found to be a simple fight, nothing needed.

1:28 p.m. — Caller from Standish Court would like an officer about an on-going issue with a neighbor; officer responded, and after hearing the issue, advised the reporting person of her options.

2:15 p.m. — Accident reported at Cleveland and Vernon streets; mirrors hit each other as the vehicles passed; operator of the second vehicle was struck by broken mirror, but refused an ambulance; she reports she will have her husband bring her to the ER to have glass fragments removed from her skin, and treat several small lacerations.

2:15 p.m. — Larceny was reported from Bayberry Court where the caller spoke with an officer regarding the theft of some sneakers; officer spoke with the sister who stated that the sneakers weren’t sold, and that she is returning them.

3:35 p.m. — A 911 caller reporting she got into a fistfight with her brothers over some sneakers; she hung up before dispatch could get her name and location, but while reaching out to her family, the involved female walked into the station lobby to report the incident in person; officer has the juvenile in custody and a juvenile arrest took place with the 17-year-old was charged with two charges of assault and battery and one of larceny over $250.

9 p.m. — Disturbance reported near the Greenfield Middle School on Federal Street where the caller says he is being chased by an unknown male on a bicycle. Officer sent, but unable to locate anyone.

Montague, July 12

6:29 a.m. — Officer on Montague City Road conducted a motor vehicle stop, and found the vehicle is the vehicle BOLOed for erratic operation out of Deerfield; awaiting Deerfield Police to handle.

4:17 p.m. — Caller from Sunderland Road reports as she drove into her driveway, she observed a white male, about 25 years old, dark tank top, shorts and short dark hair coming out of her front door carrying a box; when the male saw the reporting person he put the box down, and got into a pickup truck, blue, and left heading toward Montague Center; the caller got half of the plate number; the caller is still in her vehicle with the doors locked in the driveway; she was advised to stay there until police arrived; BOLO of the truck and subject given to Shelburne Control and Greenfield Police; detective on the scene and checked the interior with the homeowner; the reporting person says nothing is missing, and the box that the male was holding, and then dropped, contained video games; officer will remain there until the reporting person’s husband arrives; the first numbers didn’t fit any blue truck, but it was adjusted to be one that fitted the description as a blue Chevy 2010 Silverado; Shelburne Control is contacting Orange Police to have them check it, then advising the Orange Police have the vehicle on a stop, and subject operating the vehicle is out at gun point at this time; reporting person and an officer went to Orange, and she made a positive ID; Orange Police will book the man, and then he will be transported to Montague Police Station. Arrested was Michael D. Chamberlain II, 27, of Oakman Avenue, Athol, charged with breaking and entering into a building in the daytime with intent to commit a felony, and larceny over $250; bail was set at $10,000 and the fee.

8:31 p.m. — Report of a fire or smoke alarm sounding for about the last 15 minutes at a Third Street location; officer reports nothing showing at this time, and the Turners Falls Fire Department, was notified, and en route to investigate.

9:10 p.m. — Caller from Gunn Street, Erving, reports a person he has an harassment prevention order against, is repeatedly telling others, that he, “has had sex with his little daughter.” The caller lives in Erving, and he was advised to contact police in that town. Montague officer also to investigate.

9:50 p.m. — Loud noise disturbance reported from Lake Pleasant Road where the reporting person says a loud explosion was coming from the area of the railroad tracks; officer checking, and advised there is a train in the area and there are loud noises coming from it, and it is likely what the caller heard.
