SOUTH DEERFIELD — A moose on the loose in town caused a stir in the community this week.
Deerfield Police Department said it wasn’t around for very long and didn’t cause any trouble.
Stephen Smith, who lives in the area, said he spotted the moose on West Street, after he stopped to talk with his friend Wednesday around 5 p.m.
The moose was young and came around the house from the backyard into the front. It paused long enough for Smith to snap some photos before it wandered across the road toward Sugarloaf Street.
Smith said he thinks the moose was checking out the neighborhood.
“I’ve lived in some wild neighborhoods,” he said, “but this is the first time I’ve had a moose stop by to visit!”
