GREENFIELD — With just one week to go, Greenfield Community College Foundation’s annual campaign has reached 80 percent of its goal to raise $825,000, according to Regina Curtis, executive director of resource development at the college.
The money supports students and programs at GCC.
“Emily Dickinson wrote that ‘forever is composed of nows,’ and since we know that GCC changes lives forever, now is the moment to support the great work of this community’s college,” Curtis said.
“We are optimistic that we will reach our goal, as many, many people typically wait until the last week of the two-month campaign to make their contribution,” she continued. “ But it’s always a nail biter.”
She noted that the $100,000 challenge gift also ends on May 31. The anonymous matching grant doubles donations for returning donors and triples amounts given by first-timers.
“This incentive to increase the giving level of current donors or enlist new donors to help open doors for students is so inspiring and scores have responded since it was announced earlier this month,” she added, “but we’re not there yet.”
As the drive winds down, Campaign Co-Chair Nicole Fahey urged everyone to make a gift.
“GCC is one of the most valuable assets to Franklin and Hampshire Counties,” she noted. “We all have a story about how Greenfield Community College has impacted our lives in some way, and in turn, improved the lives of all that live here. Our mission now is to keep the doors open for students today and in the future to create their own stories.”
She added that “the success of the campaign is measured by more than dollars on a spreadsheet, but will also be seen and felt as a lifelong investment in the vibrancy of our community.”
The donations will, for example, help the college defray the cost of education for those in financial need and support programs and initiatives to keep at-risk students in college. Funds raised can also create opportunities for student leadership and create a pathway for students to transfer for their bachelor’s degree or enter the workforce from one of GCC’s career programs, said Curtis.
A donation can be made online at www.gcc.mass.edu or by calling 413-775-1600.
