CHARLEMONT — Nine incumbent town officials are running for office, but the annual election ballot contains blanks for seven other open positions in Charlemont.
There are currently no races and no one running write-in campaigns that have notified Town Clerk Kathy Reynolds.
The polls will be open at the Hawlemont Regional School from noon to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, right before the annual town meeting begins at 7 p.m.
The Planning Board now has three seats without candidates on the ballot. Reynolds explained that incumbent Carlene Hayden is running for re-election for a two-year term; however a three-year term, a one-year term and a one-year position for Planning Board associate member are vacant. That board is supposed to have five elected members and one associate, but appointees have been serving in many of these seats in recent years.
Beth Bandy, Board of Selectmen chairwoman, is seeking re-election to her second three-year term. Other incumbents running unopposed for three-year terms are: Jacqueline Cashin for Board of Assessors; Erwin Reynolds for Charlemont School Committee; Evelyn Locke for Mohawk Trail Regional School District Committee and also for library trustee; and Erwin Reynolds Jr. for constable.
Three incumbents are seeking re-election to the Board of Health, and the member who gets the most votes will serve a three-year term, while those with fewer votes will respectively serve a two-year- and a one-year term: Trice Hyer, Robert Lingle and Douglas Telling.
Stephen Reynolds is seeking re-election to a one-year term as tree warden.
Besides the Planning Board seats, no one is on the ballot for a one-year term as moderator or for a five-year term on the Parks and Recreation Commission.
