On Thursday, May 5, The Recorder printed two headlines side-by-side above the fold on the front page: “German artist’s portraits of Holocaust survivors a focus of Deerfield talk” — and — “Dog saved from Greenfield house fire.” Both also had at least one picture there, but the second headline, about the dog, was in a larger and bolder type face (I’d assume because of fewer words). While each story was important, I noticed my eyes were drawn first to the dog story, with the quicker and easier headline to read. Both good stories, but I felt bothered that the dog being saved was presented on a par with portraits of Holocaust survivors, and I’m wondering if any other readers had a similar experience to mine.
