GREENFIELD — Former mayoral candidate Patty Morey Walker will host a gathering Saturday evening to thank her supporters from November’s election and discuss the future progressive agenda.
Morey Walker said the event was originally going to take place closer to the end of the election, but had to be rescheduled and will instead be held Saturday from 4 to 6 p.m. at The Greenfield Gallery, 231 Main St. State Rep. Paul Mark will be in attendance, speaking on the future of Greenfield and the role of its progressives.
“The purpose is to gather supporters and others together, for us to be grateful for their contribution to the campaign, for their support, for their volunteerism,” Morey Walker said. “The main point is for us to just kind of reunite.”
After losing the mayoral election to William Martin by just 169 votes last November, Morey Walker says she still plans to stay active in town politics. She holds a seat on a town compensation committee, which she said — once up and running — will look at salaries for Greenfield employees and how they compare to those in other cities.
“I’m looking forward to seeing that come together,” she said.
Morey Walker added she’s also involved in a progressive political committee headed up by Town Council Treasurer Karen “Rudy” Renaud.
“It’s something that’s starting here in Greenfield and it’s something we’re looking to expand in the future,” she said. “The election definitely made clear that there is a significant number of progressives in town.”
Although she said it’s too soon to say whether she’ll run for mayor again in three years, Morey Walker said she’s keeping a close eye on Town Council and what’s going on in Greenfield, and plans to keep that door open.
“It’s something that I really wanted when I went for it,” she said. “I wanted it more as I learned more about the city and met more people, so it’s certainly a position that I desire.”
Her grassroots campaign, she said, was able to bring progressive ideas like fiscal transparency, infrastructure investment and support for youth and seniors to the forefront of conversation in Greenfield politics.
The event on Saturday is free and open to anyone who wishes to attend. Refreshments will be served.
