DEERFIELD — The board of selectmen has declared May 18 to be Deerfield Lions Day and the club will host a buffet dinner at The Deerfield Inn to celebrate 70 years of community service.
The Deerfield Lions Club was first chartered on April 12, 1946, and has raised money for various local organizations since.
The club plans to host its 25th Anniversary Antique and Classic Car Show at Yankee Candle Village on July 16. Proceeds of the car show and other fundraising events have always been used to benefit Lions charities, local youth and scouting programs, scholarships, community-based visual needs, and the Massachusetts Lions Eye Research Fund.
The club has 27 members, according to President Pam Hodgkins, who also said it is the only Lions club serving the southern part of Franklin County.
