ROWE — Former Selectman John H. “Jack” Williams and Dennis May have thrown their hats into the ring to run for a seat on the Board of Selectmen.

This year’s annual town election will be held on Saturday. The polls will be open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Fitness Room of the Town Hall.

The Selectboard race is the ballot’s only contest.

May, 64, of Potter Road could not be reached for comment in time for this article despite repeated attempts. May is currently on the town’s Finance Committee, according to the town website.

Jack Williams, 87, first became a Rowe selectman in 1952 at the age of 23 and has served five terms on that board over the last six decades. He has also served on other town posts, including town moderator, Board of Health, Planning Board, park commissioner, police chief, firefighter and chairman of the town’s bicentennial committee.

Williams was also active in county government, serving on the former Franklin County Planning Board, then on the Franklin Regional Council of Governments planning board. He was also a Mohawk Trail Regional School District Committee chairman and was on the study committee that led to the creation of the regional school district, when Rowe was a district member in the late 1960s.

Others on the ballot

Ellen Miller is running for a three-year seat on the School Committee, replacing Lisa Miller (no relation), who is not running for re-election. No one is running for an additional unexpired two-year term on the school board, following the resignation of Gail May.

The following candidates are running unopposed for three-year terms unless otherwise noted: Two Board of Assessors seats, Heidi Cousineau and David Cousineau; Park Commission, Michael Phillips; moderator, Robert J. Clancy; Finance Committee, Wayne Zavotka; Finance Committee (two-year term), Loretta Dionne; library trustee, Karen Soviecke; Tax Collector, Sandra Daviau. David Roberson is seeking re-election to a five-year seat on the Planning Board.

A three-year Cemetery Commission position has no candidate.
