Singley building plans put on hold

SHELBURNE — At a recent public hearing, the owners of the former Singley Furniture building on Deerfield Avenue withdrew a special permit application  to take down the old structure and replace it with a new non-conforming building on a non-conforming lot. Their application was withdrawn without prejudice, so that they can revise their application.

“It was the ZBA’s position that such a finding would not necessarily guarantee that the applicant could rebuild on the same footprint without first addressing other zoning bylaw issues, which would require a special permit,” explained Zoning Board of Appeals Chairman Joseph Palmeri. “It appears the applicant will be filing for other relief from Shelburne’s zoning bylaws in the near future.”

“We want to make certain that the request we have before the ZBA  is what we want to pursue,” said Susan Stark, one of the owners of the building. She said the owners, doing business as Ancient Glacier LLC, will re-evaluate and resubmit an application to the ZBA.

The owners plan to take down the old, deteriorated three-story structure and replace it with a two-story building that will have retail shops on the first floor and apartments on the second floor.
