I can’t imagine why anyone wants to be president of our United States. The nation’s problems are numerous and seem insurmountable to solve. On top of the problems that exist, Congress does everything possible to make matters worse. They have no intention of reducing the budget. Each man has his pet projects, which cost billions of dollars to sustain regardless of the need. Their objective is to get re-elected and that is the motivation behind their thinking. If they represent a state that produces military equipment and hardware, the by word is: “Don’t cut military spending.” I have heard that comment throughout my life. Why is there a need for 10 aircraft carrier groups? Our present enemies are terrorist organizations and they couldn’t care less if we had 30 carrier groups. A carrier strike group is composed of one or more cruisers, destroyers, submarines and an air wing of 65 to 70 aircraft. The approximate cost to build the carrier is $6 billion. In my opinion, huge cuts can be made in military spending without hurting the defensive posture of the United States.
