A number of Greenfield YMCA Tumbling Tigers gymnastics team individuals performed well at the Shamrock Invitational meet over the weekend in Beverly.

Layla Fisher won the bars (9.2) and took second on the beam (7.8), floor (8.1) and all-around (33.95) in the Level 3, ages 7 and under competition. Lindsey Taylor placed third on the floor. In the age 11 division of Level 3, Tatum Morse took third on the vault.

Hannah Phillips had a big day in the Level 4, ages 8 and under division, placing second on vault (8.7), tying for second on bars (7.5) and placing third on the beam, floor and all-around. 

Zenani Himlin-Mayekiso won the vault (8.85) and tied for third on the floor at Level 7, ages 11 and under, while Grayson Bowse won the vault (9.35), and took second on the beam (9.3) and all-around (36.55) in the Xcel Silver, 11 and under division. In the Xcel Gold, ages 14 and over division, Karma Phillips tied for first on the vault (8.9) and placed third all-around, and Cynsi Roy-Clark placed second on the bars (8.9) and floor (9.05).

Emily Keyes tied for second on the bars (8.8) and was third on the vault in the Xcel Platinum division.

Basketball

Top-Notch Camps

Registrations are now being accepted for Top-Notch Camps’ basketball and soccer camps taking place in July at Frontier Regional School in South Deerfield.

Both camps are open to players ages 7 through 13.

The Top-Notch Soccer Camp will run from July 18 through 22 and takes place daily from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. The camp is run by Cushing Academy girls’ soccer coach Melanie Stier.

The Top-Notch Basketball Camps will run on two separate weeks in July. The first session runs from July 11 through 15 from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. each day, and the second session runs from July 25 through 29 from 9 a.m. until noon each day. The camp is run by Frontier boys’ basketball coach Ben Barshefsky.

Figure skating

Spring show on tap

Collins-Moylan Arena will present FMC Ice Sports’ annual figure skating show on April 2 from 3 to 5 p.m.

This year’s theme is Once Upon A Time, a tribute to children’s literature.

The show will feature 59 local skaters, including the Stoneleigh-Burnham Synchronized Skating Team and area guest skater Simon Abbott from Granby.

Tickets are $10 adults and $5 for seniors and students. Tickets can be purchased in advance at the arena or at the door the day of the event.

Baseball

Babe Ruth signups

Sign-ups for Franklin County Babe Ruth and Mickey Mantle League baseball will be taken tonight from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at Abercrombie Field in Greenfield.

Babe Ruth is open for ages 13 to 15, Mickey Mantle for ages 16 and 17.

At the conclusion of tonight’s sign-up session, Babe Ruth will hold a general-membership meeting at the field.

Post 81 tryouts

The Greenfield Post 81 American Legion Baseball program will hold tryouts for its Senior and Junior Division teams on April 23, 24 and 30, and May 1 and 7.

Tryouts will take place at Veterans Memorial Field in Greenfield. The Senior Division (19 and under as of Dec. 31, 2016) will take place at 1 p.m., and the Junior Division (17 and under as of Dec. 31) will take place at 3.

Players from  all Franklin County schools are eligible to try out. Players should bring glove, cleats and a birth certificate. Players from a previous Post 81 roster must also attend tryouts.

GML umpires sought

The Greenfield Minor League is seeking umpires for the 2016 season, which begins April 24 and runs through the end of June.

Games are played on Mondays through Fridays starting at 5:30 p.m.
