MONTAGUE — The Montague Police Department is two-thirds of the way to their $39,000 goal to purchase a new K-9 police cruiser.

On Saturday, the fundraising efforts of two residents who pooled their time and money to host a fundraiser, contributed $1,596 toward the department’s goal, said Chief Charles “Chip” Dodge.

Montague residents Margaret Socquet and Marie Putala raised the money by selling $1 raffle tickets since the beginning of February for the new K-9 Police Cruiser for Officer Jim Ruddock and his K-9 Artie.

“We are so very thankful and proud to have you in our community,” Dodge said later on the Montague Police Department’s official Facebook page.

The two women organized a raffle fundraiser by putting together a picture frame containing $100 in scratch tickets and $100 in local gift certificates. They spent their weekends selling raffle tickets for the prize in the front lobby of Food City. Tickets were also sold at the Montague Police Department.
