Montague, March 14

7:10 p.m. — Prisoner was observed banging his head off of the cell door; when asked, he stated, “I need something to eat … I’m type two diabetic, and just got out of the hospital today,” the request was passed along to an officer, and he was advised of the head banging off the door incident.

7:52 p.m. — Employee of Subway on Avenue A reports she is concerned about two females inside the restaurant and she believes both are intoxicated; she overheard them speaking of driving home and is concerned they aren’t able to drive safely; officers arrived and one of the women refused to give the officers her vehicle description (the registry shows a white Subaru and the vehicle was located nearby); a male then arrived on the scene to take responsibility of the two females, and he will drive them home.

9:07 p.m. — Neighborhood disturbance reported on Grove Street where the reporting person says there is loud music coming from the house next door, a band that plays in the basement; the caller said this is an ongoing issue; at the end of the call the music had stopped, and the caller expressed frustration that when she calls, the officers respond, but normally by then the music has gone off; officers later were able to hear the noise level from outside, and felt it was acceptable at this time; they also spoke to the reporting person.

9:47 p.m. — Caller from Grove Street reports the noise level has gone up since officers cleared, and she advised officers told her to call if this occurred; the reporting person called back and advised the noise level now is higher than the first time she called; she is also attempting to record the noise level and will be forwarding this to the chief; officer then reports the music is so loud he is unable to get the attention of anyone inside the residence; officers finally spoke to a person at the residence, where the noise was coming from and they were advised of the multiple noise complaints.

Orange, March 14

12:40 a.m. — Report of an assault on the 911 line, with an unknown female from West Main Street reporting a male threatening her with a machete; call was transferred and dropped. On call back attempt the call went to voicemail; Shelburne Control then got a call from the reporting person who says the person just came running at him with a machete and he is currently at West Main Street; officers investigated and received two witness statements; the male was then located and taken into custody; Athol Police and state police assisted; arrested was Keith B. Howard, 38, of West Main Street, Orange, charged with assault with a dangerous weapon, to wit, the machete, and threatening to commit a crime, to wit, murder.

1:55 p.m. — Accident reported on North Main Street where the reporting person says he backed into a fire hydrant when he was making a delivery; no damage to the truck, but the Water Department advises they will need to repair or replace the hydrant.

3:38 p.m. — Reporting person on East River Street requests an officer and fire department as three kids started a fire on the outside deck last night, the fire is out, but the management would like it investigated; officer and fire department dispatched, and three juveniles will be summoned to court and charged with negligent use of fire.

3:39 p.m. — Report of a chimney fire on South Main Street; officer assisted with traffic until the fire department cleared the site.

3:40 p.m. — Control reports Athol Fire Department is responding to Prospect Street for a subject stuck in an elevator; the person was assisted.

7:10 p.m. — Control took two calls from East River Street reporting a disturbance at this location; found that one of the people involved claimed that she was assaulted by another person, who then claimed that they were assaulted by the first involved person, and they shoved her away; no one interested in pressing charges; all were advised.

10:24 p.m. — Caller from Memorial Drive reported a person at that address and requests he be removed as he is intoxicated; the male was placed in protective custody.

Greenfield, March 15

9:01 a.m. — Accident reported at Bootleggers on the Mohawk Trail, but no injuries reported; officer located and identified the vehicle and operator of a tractor-trailer, where damage was done to the Bootlegger’s sign when the tractor trailer unit attempted to turn around there; report issued.

11:09 a.m. — Despondent person reported at Clinical and Support Options on High Street where the vehicle left prior to officer’s arrival, last seen headed south on High Street; units checked several areas, but unable to locate at first; police then located the person, and he was transported to Baystate Franklin Medical Center, by Medcare.

11:23 p.m. — Disturbance at Baystate Franklin Medical Center, officers sent to assist hospital security with a patient in a secure room, and it required four officers in securing the patient, who went without further incident; three Baystate Franklin Medical Center security employees were injured during the male’s combative times, and charges will be filed; report taken.

12:26 p.m. — Disturbance at J and M Futon store on Federal Street where the caller says an irate male is in the store; officers sent, and services rendered.

1:18 p.m. — Caller requests a welfare check on a subject on Barber Avenue; the reporting person says she has not been able to contact her relative since the eighth or ninth, which is very unusable for her; officer spoke with the involved person who appeared fine, and indicated she was OK; she indicated the caller was her sister and that she would contact her.

1:38 p. m. — Welfare check requested for a person at the Days Inn on Colrain Road; officer there and has one person in custody; arrested was Tracey Barnes, 42, of Colrain Road, Greenfield, on a warrant.

1:54 p.m. — Report of an auto fire on Montague City Road, officer and fire department sent, possible motor vehicle fire reported and the caller states the vehicle is smoking; situation investigated.

5:38 p.m. — Reporting person from Riverside Drive states that earlier today he was short on money, so he asked his girlfriend if he could borrow $10 for gas at the Shell Station on the Mohawk Trail, and they met up and she swiped her card for the gas; he is now at work and is getting harassing text saying that she is going to take him to court; no answer on the call-back; message left; the reporting person eventually called back and explained that he just wanted to make sure that his girlfriend hadn’t taken out a restraining order on him; we checked and there were no open orders found.

7:59 p.m. — Larceny reported on Hope Street, where the reporting person states that he had his apartment fumigated this morning, and he placed his prescription drugs out on the porch, and forgot they were there; when he returned later in the day, they were gone; report taken.

8:43 p.m. — Caller from the Grapevine on Chapman Street states a man came running into the building saying he was being chased and is hiding in the bathroom, and is wearing a knapsack and has a mustache; officers sent, and services rendered.

10:14 p.m. — Welfare check requested on Leyden Road where the caller states she has been receiving suicidal text messages from the female person at that address; she tried to convince her to go into the ER to speak to someone, but she couldn’t get her to go; when the call back was made by an officer, the reporting person advised she is en route to the involved female’s location, and stated she will have the ex-husband get the kids there; units were advised and officers assisted with removal of the female from the apartment to the ambulance, and assisted with Medcare at the hospital.

Montague, March 15

11:21 a.m. — Officer wanted at the Cruise and Travel Company on Montague Street for an issue with a juvenile there; report taken.

2:18 p.m. — Caller from Connecticut River Liquor and Wine on Avenue A where the reporting person advises he has shut off a known male who is intoxicated, and was last seen walking down the alley by the Pizza House, the caller reports the male was almost struck by a vehicle as he was “stumbling” across the street; officers advised, located the male and took him to the station where he was placed in protective custody.

2:63 p.m. — Larceny reported at the Montague Village Store where the reporting person requested an officer, as some items were being stolen from behind the building; he has a person doing some work to the building; there was some clapboard wrapped in a tarp that is now missing; the reporting person believes this may have to do with the person doing the work, and his ex work partner; the reporting person says this happened between Sunday evening and this afternoon, as he just noticed it missing, officer to investigate.

Orange, March 15

8:32 a.m. — Breaking and entering, reported on Mechanic Street where the reporting person says he is the caretaker of this Mechanic Street property on behalf of the owner, the property was checked and secured on a previous date, and today he observed a broken window, and access was gained to the house; there is a small amount of copper stolen; he was advised the building inspector checked the property yesterday; the reporting person will re-secure the property.

10:20 a.m. — Caller into the station requesting an officer about harassment that has occurred over the past two weeks; officer spoke with her and discussed her options.

11:07 a.m. — Shelburne Control reports a young child, about three years old, pressing up against a screen on East Main Street; the caller is concerned he may fall out; officer spoke with the grandfather who stated he was present and with the child; the child was watching his mother leave; the grandfather was advised of the caller’s concern.

12:12 p.m. — Traffic stop on East River Street for speeding and an expired registration; the operator was able to renew the vehicle’s registration with Internet access from a smartphone; the operator was given a verbal warning for the violations.
