GREENFIELD — Police arrested 34-year-old Dion Cadiz of Turners Falls on Wednesday night after he allegedly broke into his ex-partner’s home on Shattuck Street and, aiming a handgun at her, threatened to kill her.
According to Police Chief Todd Dodge, Officer Alyssa Ippolito responded to a report of domestic violence in the Shattuck Street area involving a person pointing a firearm at around 7 p.m. Prior to Ippolito’s arrival, Dodge said dispatchers informed the officer that the suspect and alleged victim were familiar with one another.
“The alleged victim reported that her ex had broken into her house when she was sleeping and was waving a firearm in her face, threatening to kill her,” Dodge recounted. “The victim said that she’s very well aware of the fact that he does not have a license to carry this kind of firearm, and she described it as appearing to be a Glock 9mm handgun.”
Dodge said Cadiz and another person, who he said “made every attempt possible” to get Cadiz to leave the home, left about 10 minutes before police arrived.
After children living in the house described Cadiz and the other male party to police, Dodge said Sgt. Todd Clark spotted the two men on Davis Street walking in “close proximity” to the alleged victim’s house.
“The victim indicated that if [Cadiz] knew police were going to be close by that he would probably try to ditch the gun. Close in proximity to where they located the two males walking, they found about several yards away in a bush, a ghost Glock, which is, for all intents and purposes, a 9mm handgun,” Dodge said. “There was one [bullet] in the chamber and no serial numbers.”
Upon police intervention, Cadiz allegedly attempted to physically evade officers, while Dodge said the other male was compliant with police.
Cadiz was arrested on numerous charges, including five counts of assault with a deadly weapon, assault on a family or household member, home invasion, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, possession of ammunition without a firearms identification card, a felony charge of possession of a firearm with a missing or defaced serial number, a firearm violation with two prior convictions, a third offense of carrying a firearm without a license, possession of a large-capacity magazine, assault with intent to murder and carrying a firearm without a license.

“We’re just happy no one got hurt. There were some juveniles exchanging some information and it was actually juveniles who got us that information. It’s sad to think they were the ones that had to carry that message to us, but at the same time, they were protecting who I believe was their mother,” Dodge said. “I’m glad this went the way it went. Nobody was hurt and we got another illegal firearm off the street.”
