BERNARDSTON — A man was taken to Baystate Franklin Medical Center with minor head, neck and shoulder injuries Thursday after a mechanical failure caused the back wheel of his motorcycle to lock, throwing him across Brattleboro Road, according to Bernardston Police Sgt. Thomas Chabot.
At approximately 12:23 p.m., the victim, who Chabot said was in his 20s, was riding southbound on Brattleboro Road (Route 5) alongside his friend, Chandler Turner. Chabot estimated the motorcycles were traveling at approximately 50 mph before the back tire seized.
Turner said the motorcycle, a red roadster-style bike, flipped over. A group of good Samaritans blocked off the road and helped move the victim and his motorcycle out of traffic.
“He was able to stand up and walk himself over to the stretcher,” Chabot said. “He’s very lucky.”
