After Greenfield Post 81 was forced to forfeit their game with Belchertown Post 239 on Tuesday, Post 81 protested the ruling in hopes to overturn it and resume it at a later date – a protest in which they won.
The two teams were already continuing a previous contest that was postponed in the second inning due to thunderstorms in the area. Greenfield showed up Tuesday with exactly nine players, and because the game had already started, the umpires deemed the designated hitter ineligible to play in the field.
Greenfield protested the decision and the protest was upheld. The game shall be replayed from the point where it was left off following the original game. A new date for completion of the game, which saw Belchertown lead 2-1 in the bottom of the second inning when originally suspended due to weather, was still to be determined.
