After knocking off Ware last week, the Athol football team kept its foot on the gas against Palmer on Friday.

The Panthers opened up a 7-0 lead early and after the Bears responded with a pair of touchdowns, Palmer scored before the half to take a 14-12 lead into the intermission.

It was all Athol in the second half, as the Bears punched in three scores to pull away with a 30-14 victory at Legion Field.

Logan McGrath hauled in a 10-yard touchdown pass from Aidan Melanson that helped the Bears (4-2) cut the lead to  7-6. Raydin Sousa then hauled in a 70-yard touchdown score that put Athol ahead, 12-7, before Ware struck before the end of the half.

Sawyer Lefsyk ran in a score to give the Bears the lead in the third quarter before Aaron Ouellet hauled in a 20-yard score from Melanson, with Melanson finding McGrath for the 2-point try.

Lefsyk closed out the scoring with a two-yard touchdown run.

Athol hosts rival Mahar next Friday at 7 p.m.
