It was a busy day at Greenfield High School, as Athol, Mahar and Pioneer competed in a track and field meet at GHS. Greenfield, who competed against Mohawk Trail the day before, was just hosting the meet and did not participate. 

On the boys side, Mahar beat Athol, 95-47, and Pioneer, 105-38. On the girls side, Mahar beat Athol 86-29, while Pioneer beat Mahar, 80-54. 

Mahar boys winners were Mitchell Krasco in the triple jump (42 feet, 10.5 inches), 110-meter hurdles (16.1 seconds) and 400 hurdles (62.9), Coltin Fausett in pole vault (9-6), Sean Ramos in the 100 (12.2), Turin Gurganus in the 400 (60.2) and Orion Whitmore in the 2 mile (13:01). 

Athol boys winners were Nick LeBlanc in the shot (45-3.5) and discus (153-4), Ethan Goodwin in the javelin (136), long jump (17-9.75) and high jump (5-6) and Karim Thompson in the 200 (24.5). 

Ryan Spofford was a double winner for Pioneer on the boys side, taking the mile (5:09.6) and 2 mile (12:31.9). 

Mahar girls winners were Delana Fausett in the discus (62-1), Stellina Moore in the high jump (4-10), Madelyn Moore in pole vault (9-6) and Annabelle Esparaza in the 800 (3:15). 

Pioneer girls winners were Natalie Rios in shot put (27-2.75) and javelin (100-10), Sahana Heilman in the long jump (14-10.25), triple jump (30-2) and 100 hurdles (16.9), Louise Flagollet in the 100 (13.3) and 400 (64.5), Emmanuelle Flagollet in the 400 hurdles (73.4) and Izzy Allen in the mile (7:37). 

Ayzia Britt won the girls 200 for Athol (32.0).

Frontier 6, Hampshire 4 — The Redhawks rallied to score five runs in the sixth inning and hung on late to knock off the Raiders in Suburban League West action in Westhampton on Wednesday. 

Kaden James drilled three hits and knocked in two RBIs with a single in the sixth, Braeden Dion and Brady Poreda each had two hits, Carter Miller got the win on the mound while Max Skribiski-Banack came on to earn the save for Frontier. 

Turners 10, Lee 2 — Kainen Stevens went the distance on the hill for the Thunder, tallying seven strikeouts while allowing just a trio of hits and walks. At the plate, he cracked four hits and an RBI to propel Turners to an independent road victory on Wednesday. 

Trevor Lyons doubled to bring in three, Jackson Cogswell and Julian Kaiser each finished with two hits while Brody Girard hit safely for the Thunder. 

Greenfield 2, Easthampton 0 — It was a low-scoring Suburban League West affair in Easthampton on Wednesday, as Greenfield’s Arthur Fitzpatrick struck out 10 and gave up just one hit while not giving up a run in seven innings work to earn the shutout victory. 

Conner Bergeron, Caleb Thomas and Fitzpatrick each tallied a hit in the win for the Green Wave. 

Pioneer 6, Hopkins 4 — Tied at one going into the fourth, the Panthers managed to score in each inning from there including a two-run seventh to earn a Suburban League West victory in Hadley on Wednesday. 

Ethan Quinn pitched the first four innings, striking out nine and scattering two hits. Ben Werner struck out three over the final three frames. 

Quinn helped himself with a single, a double and two RBIs at the plate. Braeden Tsipenyuk doubled in a run, Ethan Mauthe finished with a single and an RBI while Jackson Campbell added a base hit for Pioneer. 

Mount Everett 6, Athol 5 — Trailing 6-1, the Bears scored twice in the fifth before scoring twice in the seventh, though they were unable to get the tying run across as the Eagles earned a win in Sheffield Wednesday. 

Ethan Heuer knocked a pair of hits and drove in two runs, Marc Gould and Alex Lavigne each had a hit and an RBI while Logan Cormier and Raydin Sousa both tallied two hits in the loss. 

Heuer struck out nine in the loss. 

Athol JV lost to Mt. Everett, 13-9. 

Drury 7, Franklin Tech 2 — The Blue Devils handed the Eagles their first loss of the season, as Drury picked up an independent win in North Adams Wednesday. 

Softball

Frontier 23, Athol 3 (5) — Skyler Steele went 5-for-5 with two home runs and drove in a whopping 10 runs for the Redhawks, which picked up an independent win over the Bears at Zabek Field in South Deerfield Wednesday. 

Ashley Taylor doubled twice and drove in two runs, Delaney Fifield recorded two hits and two RBIs, Olivia Machon singled in a run while Taylor struck out five and Bella Orrell added two strikeouts in the win for Frontier. 

Gianna Vaillancourt singled, homered and drove in two, Jaylynn Chapalonis doubled while Ally Robertson had a hit and an RBI for Athol. 

Pioneer 11, Northampton 10 — Luci Burnap came through in the clutch for the Panthers, driving a single that scored the game-winning run and hand Pioneer a victory in Northfield on Wednesday. 

Jacobia Tyminski finished with a home run, a single and two RBIs, Taylor Chase singled, tripled and drove in three, Maggie Tsipenyuk singled, doubled and drove in one, Laylah Goulston tallied three hits and two RBIs while Alison Clary had two hits and an RBI in the win. 

Girls tennis

Frontier 3, Mohawk Trail 2 — Kayla Fagan walked away with a victory in No. 2 singles (6-1, 6-1), Ella Sibley won in No. 3 singles (6-4, 6-0) while Brooke Charest and Hailey Fernandez earned a 6-1, 6-1 win in No. 2 doubles to propel the Redhawks to a victory in South Deerfield Wednesday. 

Hazel Foucault picked up a win in No. 1 singles (6-2, 6-4) while Ivan Hillenbrand and Eliza Crowell won in No. 1 doubles (6-4, 2-6, 6-2) for Mohawk Trail. 

Boys tennis

Frontier 3, Pope Francis 2 — With the match tied 2-2, Xavier Fripp and Noah Nichols sealed the win for the Redhawks with a 6-3, 6-7, 12-10 comeback win in doubles to lift Frontier to a win over the Cardinals in Springfield. 

Casey Bestler won 6-3, 7-5 in No. 2 singles while Oliver Brown continued his unbeaten streak with a 6-3, 6-4 win in No. 3 singles. 

Boys ultimate

Four Rivers 9, Northfield Mount Hermon 8 — Kolid Broderick finished with seven assists, Owen Baril scored three points and Henry Schwerin added two points for the Otters in a win over NMH on Wednesday.
