ORANGE – A man was airlifted to a hospital Friday morning following a head-on collision on Daniel Shays Highway.

According to the Orange Fire Department’s Facebook page, a driver with serious injuries was taken to Athol Hospital to be stabilized before being transported elsewhere via medical helicopter. The driver of the other vehicle in the crash, which occurred at around 6:30 a.m., was taken by the Athol Fire Department to Athol Hospital.

Orange Fire Chief James Young, who reported to the scene, said the crash happened around Gelinas Waste Recycle Landscape. He said the cause of the crash was unknown.
