Bulletin Board: Matt Pitoniak sinks 10th career hole-in-one at Country Club of Greenfield

Matt Pitoniak sank his 10th career hole-in-one on Wednesday, accomplishing the feat at the Country Club of Greenfield. 

The ace came at the fifth hole, where he used a 6-iron from 135 yards out.

Mike Phillips, Hap Eaton and Al Dedinas were witnesses. 

CFC results

Al Alminas and Mark Karpiej shot the low gross of 68 to take first in the Senior Open 2-Player Best Ball Tournament at Crumpin-Fox Club on Wednesday. 

Dave Cronin and Mike Laga placed second (73) while Mike Korpita and Steve Malinoski came in third (74). Jon Shea and Bob Shea shot the low net (61) followed by Scott Livingstone and Scott King (63) and Mike Maguire and Tom Helbig (65). 

Skin winners were Maguire and Helbig on No. 1 and 12, Jeff Soley and Dan Benoit on No. 3, Alminas and Karpiej on No. 6 and 10, Mark Laughran and Mike Cove on No. 8 and Livingstone and King on No. 9.

Mike Hickey finished with the top point quota of plus-7 in the Knights of Columbus League at Thomas Memorial. 

Richard Heath and Joey Niedbala tied for second (plus-6). Rod Herzig won closest to the pin on No. 7 (five feet, two inches) while Rick Greene won on No. 9 (10-3). Niedbala, Dave Dion, Rod Herzig and Frank Penny won skins while Niedbala shot the low gross (36).

Gail Miller shot the low gross of 44 while Terry Adams carded the low net of 28 in the Thomas Women’s League at Thomas Memorial on Wednesday.

Flyers 13, Defenders 1 — Brayleigh Burgh struck out eight and scattered one hit, Riley Dyer knocked two hits, one a double, while Breanna Kempf hit safely in the Flyers’ win on Wednesday. 

Gianna DiSchiullo singled while Luci Burnap struck out three for the Defenders. 

Menace 5, Fury 3 — Amelia Rider singled, doubled and drove in a run, Kylee Gamache knocked two hits, Charlie Vera-Fellow doubled in a run while Raine Wonsey struck out 13 and allowed just one hit in the Menace’s triumph on Wednesday. 

Ameliyah Galbraith hit safely while Jaelyn Boliski struck out eight for the Fury. 

Bombers 13, Wolfpack 1 — Mia Shaw tallied three hits, one a triple, Riana Shaw singled, doubled and drove in three, Carson Farrell recorded two hits and two RBIs and Addison Talbot had two hits and one RBI in the Bombers’ victory on Wednesday. 

Bella Bramucci recorded a hit and an RBI while Kiely Kinchla and Callie Edwards hit safely for the Wolfpack. 

Basketball

DRIVE League

The boys varsity playoffs in the DRIVE League got underway on Tuesday at Greenfield High School, with Jon Breor scoring 26 points, Krish Patel tallying 12 points while Grayson Thomas added 11 points to help Greenfield earn a 63-60 victory over Easthampton. 

Jasper Alvarez scored 34 points for the Eagles. 

After, Jack Cady scored 27 points while Levi Tabachnick tallied 11 points in Brattleboro’s 54-53 win over Athol. Ben Kearney scored 18 points while Dom St. Andre added 12 points for the Bears. 

The final game of the night saw Keene advance with an 87-47 win over Narragansett behind 14 points from Jamal Williams and 10 points from Fitch Howard. Max Coughlin led Narragansett with 20 points. 

Adult softball

PV Women’s League

Shelburne Falls 9, Goshen 3 — Melissa Hersey and Shirley MacLean each had four hits, Teagan Valeski had three hits while Amanda Chapin doubled, tripled and drove in a run in Shelburne’s win Tuesday. 

Whitney Roberts drove in a run, Fawn Mougin doubled and Melissa Wuerth singled for Goshen.
