DEERFIELD — Dog licenses are now available to residents, and must be obtained by April 30.
According to a post on the town website, all dogs 6 months old or older must be licensed with the Town Clerk’s Office every year. New dogs must be licensed within 30 days of arrival.
Applications, which can be found on the town website at deerfieldma.us or on top of the dropbox in the Town Hall foyer, must include proof of current rabies vaccination from the dog’s veterinarian and a spay/neuter certificate, if applicable.
Spayed and neutered dog licenses cost $5.50, and unaltered dog licenses cost $10.50. Residents ages 70 years old or older are eligible to waive the license fee.
To commemorate the birthday of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., the community is invited to join a remote discussion on the book “Stamped: Racism, Antiracism and You.”
The book, written by Jason Reynolds and Ibram X. Kendi, is an exploration of race and racism in America. Community members are invited to discuss it via Zoom on Monday, Jan. 18, from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
Copies of the book are available for checkout at the Sunderland Public Library and the Tilton Library in Deerfield. The event is being co-sponsored by the Sunderland Human Rights Commission Working Group and the Deerfield Inclusion Group.

CONWAY — Mass Audubon is participating in the Wonderfund Access Card program, which offers foster families in the state Department of Children and Families (DCF) free access to the nonprofit’s wildlife sanctuaries.
Free access, for up to four individuals per visit, is valid at any of the sanctuaries in Mass Audubon’s network, including Conway Hills on South Deerfield Road. Conway Hills includes a single-loop, ¾-mile trail through a previously harvested white pine and hemlock forest, past aging stone walls, by a large sugar maple “wolf tree,” and over rocky ledges, according to Mass Audubon.
Admission to the sanctuary in Conway is typically donation-based.
Wonderfund, which currently serves more than 5,000 DCF foster families statewide, joins other programs for which Mass Audubon is a participating partner year-round, including EBT Card to Culture, ConnectorCare Card to Culture and Blue Star Families.
