GREENFIELD — The city reported Thursday that there are 25 confirmed COVID-19 cases in Greenfield, so far, with five deaths.
Greenfield has decided to begin releasing COVID-19 numbers on a daily basis, according to Danielle Letourneau, Mayor Roxann Wedegartner’s chief of staff.
She said the city is currently working on its website, so that it can report those numbers not only to local press, but directly to residents who want to stay informed.
Letourneau said the city is in constant contact with the hospital, local nursing facilities and the state. Based on local, state and federal numbers, she said Greenfield could see Thursday’s numbers double by next week.
“We’re addressing these issues swiftly, and so are the care facilities we are in contact with,” she said.
Letourneau said one of the most recent measures the mayor has taken is to close all park equipment throughout town, as well as sports areas, such as tennis and basketball courts.
“The mayor wants to keep open space open for people to use them responsibly,” she said. “We don’t want to keep people from walking outside, because doing so, without getting too close, will help relieve stress.”
Letourneau said signs will go up throughout town, not only to let the public know about playgrounds, but also to remind them to exercise distance when they are walking through parks or hiking trails individually or as families.
