NORTHAMPTON — Pioneer Valley Regional School has submitted a school bus for the Three County Fair’s bus demolition derby.
The Demo Cross and School Bus Demo Derby will take place at the fairgrounds, 54 Fair St. in Northampton, on Saturday at 7 p.m.
Cash prizes are awarded for first, second and third place. Another prize is given for overall appearance.
“We had a handful of staff members and a couple students get together to paint the bus,” said Pioneer Principal Kevin Burke.
The team of Pioneer painters went to the fairgrounds and painted the bus ahead of the competition. The bus features panther paw prints along the sides and the zip codes for all four regional towns as mock license plates on the rear.
Burke will be attending the fair with his family to watch Saturday. His daughter attends Hampshire Regional High School, which submitted a bus of its own, he said.
A second demolition event, the Light Truck/SUV Demo and School Bus Demo Derby, will be held on Monday at 1 p.m.
Demo derby admission tickets are available to purchase on-site only, at the grandstand entrance and the fairgrounds’ ticket booth.
