NORTHFIELD — A northbound Chevrolet Monte Carlo on Millers Falls Road veered to the left off the road late Friday morning striking a utility pole.

The driver, a woman whom police declined to identify, suffered facial injuries and was trapped in the vehicle until freed by the Northfield Fire Department. According to Northfield Police, the injuries did not appear to be life-threatening.

Airbags deployed. The impact sent glass and debris at least  30 feet into the front yard at 749 Millers Falls Road, with the vehicle twisting around the pole, almost reversing direction. The crash also appeared to knock loose a transformer that was hanging from its wires directly above the accident scene.

Also responding were Bernardston and Erving police, as well as Northfield EMS and an American Medical Response ambulance that transported the driver to the hospital.

The accident is under investigation.
