Fire safety help for seniors

CHARLEMONT — Fire Department personnel, partnering with Charlemont Council on Aging, will explain the new Senior SAFE grant program at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Charlemont Senior Center 175, Main St., in the Federated Church.

Seniors will receive important safety tips and have the opportunity to sign up for a free home inspection at which time free safety equipment may be available.

Shelburne seeks quilts for 250th show

SHELBURNE — Quilt lovers in Shelburne: Do you have a quilt you would like to display at the 250th Celebration Quilt Show?

Include a quilt name, maker, owner, whether it is hand-sewn or machine-sown. Include a short story about the quilt. Deadline for entries is June 10.

The Quilt Show will take place on Saturday, June 23.

Charlemont to hold pre-town meeting on May 16

CHARLEMONT — A pre-Annual Town Meeting information session takes place on Wednesday, May 16, at 7 p.m. at the Hawlemont Regional School.

This will include a preview of warrant articles to be voted at Annual Town Meeting (held May 22). All are welcome to attend both meetings. This year’s warrant will include at least $500,000 in capital requests for new Highway, Police, and Emergency Management equipment.

Buckland’s Comcast meeting scheduled for May 16

BUCKLAND — An informational meeting with Comcast representatives will be held for residents at the Buckland Public Library on Wednesday, May 16, starting at 6:30 p.m. Comcast employees will be on site to discuss the new services and promotions available for eligible Comcast customers.

Original member of Hawley Fire Department retires

HAWLEY — The Fire Department would like to wish William “Bill” Hoyt a happy retirement. Hoyt, one of three original members of the Fire Department, is stepping down after providing firefighting and first-responder service for all 34 years of the department’s existence.

His departure leaves firefighter Jane Grant and Fire Chief Gregory Cox as the last of the founding members still active.
