GREENFIELD — Whether you’re an avid collector or simply curious about what treasures there are to be found, Greenfield Business Association Director Hannah Rechtschaffen believes the Greenfield Vintage Fall Stroll will have something for you.
The fifth annual event, featuring sidewalk sales, movie screenings and antiques galore, is set for Saturday, Oct. 10, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Rechtschaffen said businesses will have tables and booths set up on the sidewalk for customers to peruse various vintage offerings.
“It’s very much a choose-your-own-adventure event,” Rechtschaffen said. “It’s about going into different businesses to discover new things.”
She said at least 10 businesses plan to set up something special for the day, including the Hens & Chicks Consignment Store, which intends to have a lemonade stand with different flavored lemonades outside its 308 Main St. storefront.
“It was a huge hit last year,” Rechtschaffen said.
She added that there are several antique and vintage stores that sell unique items, and every time she goes to shop, she finds something new.
“I just love how many stores we have that have eclectic things,” Rechtschaffen said. “I’m a real treasure hunter and there’s a lot of treasure when shopping in Greenfield.”
Other participating businesses include Antique Revival & Collectibles, which plans to have a tag sale outside its 186 Main St. storefront, and the Garden Cinemas, which, in partnership with The Walt Disney Co., will be rereleasing the comedy classic “9 to 5,” starring the late Dolly Parton, Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin.
The 1980 film follows three female office employees who band together to seek revenge against their sexist, autocratic male boss. The movie will be screened between Oct. 9 and Oct. 15, with ticket proceeds supporting The Dollywood Foundation and Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. The theater will also be collecting new and used children’s books and distributing them during the Nov. 13 showing of “The Cat in the Hat.”
During the Oct. 10 Vintage Fall Stroll, the Garden Cinemas will also host a “Dolly Day.” The theater encourages attendees to “wear whatever makes them feel beautiful” and enjoy a 9:25 p.m. “Drag Queens and Donuts” show.
“Dolly Parton saw the humanity in everyone and brought people from all walks of life together through their mutual love of the arts, whether that be film or music,” Garden Cinemas co-owner Angela Mass said in a statement.
Rechtschaffen said the Vintage Fall Stroll saw a good turnout last year, and she hopes to see the event continue to grow and support the stores and businesses in Greenfield. The event was first held in 2022 as “Vintage Days” and was rebranded as the “Vintage Fall Stroll” last year. While the earlier years of festivities included multiple days, with classic car shows, swing dances and more, Rechtschaffen said that since rebranding, the event has been more focused on getting customers to pop into different businesses and explore Greenfield’s antique and vintage stores.
“It’s awesome, and I’m hoping it’ll continue to grow,” Rechtschaffen said.
