The Mahar Regional girls basketball team stayed unbeaten after a 50-28 road win over Franklin Tech on Monday night in a Franklin South matchup.

Julia Hatch caught fire in the first quarter to help put the Senators (5-0, 3-0 Franklin South) ahead. Hatch scored 10 of her 15 points in the first frame. Hayden Comeau scored 15 points and went 9-for-10 from the free throw line.

Hatch connected on three 3-pointers in the game. Mackenzie Matthews and Taylor Paluk each added five points for the Senators.

Franklin Tech (2-5, 1-3 Franklin South) got 16 points from Brayleigh Burgh. Ariel Peters had six rebound and four steals for the Eagles.

Smith Academy 48, Mohawk 45 โ€” The Warriors came back from a double-digit deficit in the second half but couldn’t hold a three-point lead late in the fourth quarter in the road loss to the Falcons in Franklin South Competition.

Two four-point plays by the Falcons in the late stages of the game doomed Mohawk (3-2, 1-2 Franklin South). Smith Academy went 18-for-28 from the free throw line in the game. Mohawk went 3-for-11 from the line.

Natalie Lanoue scored 14 points for the Warriors (3-2, 1-2 Franklin South). Lanoue knocked down four 3-pointer for Mohawk. Zephyr Jetzon added 12 points.

Pioneer 35, Leicester 19 โ€” Kyler McClelland powered Pioneer in a home win over the Wolverines in independent play.

McClelland had 18 points on six 3-pointers for the Panthers (3-3). Cobi Tyminski had seven points and grabbed eight rebounds. Maggie Tsipenyuk added six points and seven rebounds for Pioneer.

Pioneer held a 21-11 lead at halftime.

Hopkins Academy 33, Greenfield 14 โ€” Gloria McDonald had eight points, but the Green Wave (3-3, 2-1) lost on the road to the Golden Hawks in a Franklin South match up.

Boys basketball

Athol 35, Smith Academy 33 โ€” Brandon Adams nailed a buzzer-beating 3-pointer to lock down a win for the Bears over the visiting Falcons in a Hampshire North match up.

It was Brandon Adams only field goal of the game. Nate Perrault led the Bears (2-4, 2-2) with nine points.

“Wasn’t pretty for scoring by either team,” Athol coach Brian Patria said. “But these guys never have up and I’m proud of their fight.”

Frontier 55, South Hadley 46 โ€” The Redhawks handled the visiting Tigers at Goodnow Gymnasium in an independent match up.

Max Millette scored 23 points for Frontier (7-1). Alex Ellis (11 points) and Rowan Modestow (19 points) also reached double-figures for the Redhawks.

Greenfield 64, Pioneer 42 โ€” Malik Moore registered a double-double for the Green Wave in their home win over the Panthers in a Hampshire North contest.

Moore finished with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Grayson Thomas led Greenfield with 29 points, with Connor Bergeron adding 15 for Greenfield (4-2, 3-0 Hampshire North).

Matt Richotte led Pioneer with 18 points. Judah Glenn added 11 points for the Panthers (0-6, 0-3 Hampshire North).

PVCICS 57, Mohawk 22 โ€” The Warriors lost to the Dragons in Hadley in a Tri-County North match up.

Brayden Marcoux scored eight points for the Warriors (0-6, 0-4 Tri-County North). Noah Sprague added five points for Mohawk.

Wrestling

The Frontier Regional wrestling squad took part in the Minickiello Tournament at Keene High School in New Hampshire over the weekend.

The event boasted over 500 wrestlers at Purbeck Gymnasium. On Sunday, Thomas Bagdon earned second place at 138 pounds while Sean Eich-Richardson earned third place at 190 pounds.

Jocelyn Antes took third for the Redhawks in the 120-pound division on Saturday. Antes won by fall (2:20) in the Round of 16. In the quarterfinals, Antes pinned (2:52) Giselle Barrera. Antes then pinned (1:40) Yaneliz Andino before falling in the finals. Lily Runez pinned Antes in one minute, 10 seconds.
