A trip to Springfield produced a loss for the Greenfield girls basketball team on Monday. The Green Wave (2-2) fell to Baystate Academy, 40-31, at the South End Community Center in independent play.

Baystate played an aggressive defensive style against Greenfield.

“We just weren’t ready for that yet,” Greenfield coach Ben Johnson said. “We need to work on decision-making and just being aggressive. Look for our shots when we have it. “

Tayler Bergeron scored 23 points for the Green Wave. Bergeron connected on three 3-pointers. Gloria McDonald added six points for Greenfield. Greenfield hosts Mohawk Trail on Friday at 7 p.m.

Boys basketball

Narragansett 63, Athol 33 โ€” The Bears took a road loss to the Warriors in Baldwinville in an independent contest. Karim Thompson scored 13 points scored (1-4) for Athol. Ethan Goodwin added six points for the Bears.

Chicopee 62, Mahar 40 โ€” Matt Vitello scored seven points, but the Senators lost on the road to the Pacers in independent play. Kayden McGivern, Freeland Ringer and Ishan Coburn each added six points for Mahar (1-4).

Wrestling

Fronier Regional’s Jocelyn Antes steamrolled her competition at the Phil Tomkiel Wrestling Tournament at Agawam High School on Monday night.

Antes posted up on the first-place podium for the Redhawks after winning her three matches without losing a point in the 126-pound bracket.

One of the victories included a 58 second win by pin over Jewlie Grace in the finals. Antes also defeated Lauren McAteer by decision (3-0) and Solimary Cruz-Sedan by pin (1:22).

Wrestling

Mahar 43, Hampden Charter 21 โ€” The Senators (2-0, 2-0) won again in Valley Wheel competition in Orange on Saturday.

Orion Whitehouse pinned (3:12) Zakaria Alsmail at 132 pounds for Mahar. Elias Roberts also picked up a win by fall at 144 pounds, pinning Connor Dearborn (49 seconds).
