GREENFIELD — Students at Beacon of Light Preschool have been learning about and experiencing parts of the life cycle of chickens, thanks to a donation of seven fertilized eggs from Diemand Farm in Wendell.
The children were able to handle the eggs before they hatched, hear the chicks peeping close to hatching day and learn how they emerge from their shells. After 24 hours, the chicks were transferred into a brooding box.
Shayna Collins, manager of Tractor Supply Co. in Greenfield, donated the chick starter kit and food to assist in creating the brooding box.
