Northfield, MA – Frank Ransom Foster, III (Randy) age 85 of Northfield, MA, died on November 25, 2025, at home, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on May 6, 1940, to June Streeter Foster and Frank (Bud) Ransom Foster, II in Montague, MA.
Randy attended elementary school in Bernardston, junior high at Powers Institute, and Mount Hermon (class of 1959) for high school. He earned a B.S. in business at Bryant College, in Providence, RI.
It was in college that he met and married the love of his life, Lynn Fosdick, on August 11, 1962, and they had five children.
Randy first worked as an Assistant Manager at Woolworth’s, but soon found work as an insurance agent with the Prudential Insurance Company, where he worked for the next 19 years. He was then approached to join the independent insurance agency Albert B. Allen in Greenfield. After 5 years, was asked to become a partner, where he worked until retiring at the age of 75.
He was a devoted husband and father, adored by his children, and beloved by his grandchildren, sisters, nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles. Randy loved spending time with his large, loving, extended family at the family’s cottage on Spofford Lake.
Aside from his family, Randy was an avid sports enthusiast, as an athlete, a coach, and fan. He enjoyed downhill skiing, water skiing, and playing soccer in high school and later played softball in the Northern League; he was a youth baseball coach for 10 years, winning two championships; and he was a fan of many sports, including both local and New England teams. Randy was always involved in his church, serving as a deacon, a Sunday school teacher, and on numerous committees over the decades.
He credits being a student at Mt. Hermon with changing his life. Randy was involved in alumni affairs for decades, receiving an Alumni Citation on June 8, 2019, given to alums who serve their class and their school with distinction.
