Cultural Council grant applications due Oct. 16

GREENFIELD — The Greenfield Cultural Council is now accepting grant proposals from organizations, schools and individuals seeking funding to support cultural activities in the community. All submissions are due by Thursday, Oct. 16. Proposals can include community-oriented arts, humanities and science programs.

For the second year in a row, Greenfield has received an allocation of $20,200 from the Massachusetts Cultural Council to distribute locally. To apply, visit massculturalcouncil.smartsimple.com/s_Login.jsp.

Greenfield’s funding priorities — shaped by a 2024 community survey — are to support projects that take place in Greenfield or neighboring towns. Based on survey feedback, the Cultural Council encourages applications for live performances and festivals, social justice and cultural diversity events, and public art. Full results of the survey are available at greenfield-ma.gov/cultural-council.

“Every year, the Greenfield Local Cultural Council is inspired by the creativity and commitment of our applicants,” Cultural Council Chair Tim Fisk said in a statement. “With $20,200 to award this cycle, we’re excited to support projects that reflect the diversity and spirit of our community. Last year we received 88 applications, which shows just how competitive the process is, but also how vibrant the arts and cultural landscape is in Greenfield.”

Recent projects funded by the Cultural Council include Musica Franklin, Artspace Community Arts Center, Shea Theater Arts Center and The LAVA Center.

In an effort to make the process more accessible, the council has produced a four-part video tutorial series offering guidance on how to apply, align with local priorities and build a strong proposal. The video tutorials are available at greenfield-ma.gov/cultural-council.

In addition, the Cultural Council will host drop-in hours at the Greenfield Community Television (GCTV) offices at 393 Main St. beginning on Thursday, Sept. 11, from 4 to 6 p.m.
