Cultural Council accepting grant applications

HEATH — The Cultural Council is accepting applications for the fiscal year 2026 grant cycle. Applications are due Oct. 17.

The Massachusetts Cultural Council allotted $5,700 to Heath to support local arts and culture programs, including exhibits, festivals, field trips, short-term artist residencies, performances, presentations for schools, workshops and lectures.

Tyler Memorial Library seeks community feedback

CHARLEMONT — Tyler Memorial Library is seeking community input to help guide strategic planning for the library’s future.

Patrons are invited to respond to a survey asking what they like about the library and what they would like to see in the future. The survey can be found at tinyurl.com/TylerLibrarySurvey and paper copies are available in the library at 157 Main St.

Charlemont town potluck picnic set for Sept. 13

CHARLEMONT — The Park and Recreation Commission is hosting a town potluck picnic on Saturday, Sept. 13, at the Charlemont Fairgrounds.

From 3 to 7 p.m., community members can enjoy lawn games such as cornhole and bocce. Attendees are encouraged to bring a dish to share.

Pauline and Devereux Productions to present ‘Seeing Violet’

ASHFIELD — Pauline and Devereux Productions will host a question-and-answer session with playwright Peter Snoad during a one-weekend-only production of “Seeing Violet.”

Betsy and John, a modern couple in New England, are converting the carriage house at their “old manse” into an apartment.  The renovation unearths a manumission paper for a woman named Violet, as well as human remains. As clues to Violet’s life are revealed, the lives of the couple begin to intertwine with hers in frightening and surprising ways.

Performances of “Seeing Violet” will be held on Friday, Sept. 26, at 7 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 27, at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., and Sunday, Sept. 28, at 2 p.m. at the First Congregational Church of Ashfield, 429 Main St. 

Tickets range from $10 to $35. Tickets are available online at theticketing.co/e/seeing-violet and in person at Ashfield Hardware or at the door.

Sept. 26: COVID-19, flu vaccine clinic

ASHFIELD — The Police Department will host its annual vaccine clinic on Friday, Sept. 26. From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., COVID-19 and flu vaccines will be available at Town Hall.

Walk-ins will be accepted, but doses are limited, so interested individuals are encouraged to register in advance. To register, call 413-628-4441, ext. 1. Attendees are advised to bring their insurance information.
