Make it two wins in a row for the Athol golf team.

After taking down Mohawk Trail on Wednesday, the Bears hosted Hopkins Academy at Ellinwood Country Club on Thursday and walked away with a 165-170 triumph.

Ethan Heuer shot a team-low 36, Owen Stoddard carded a 39, Dominik St. Andre finished with a 42 while Brandon Adams rounded out the scoring with a 48 for Athol.

Ludlow 156, Frontier 180 — The Redhawks made the trip to Ludlow Country Club on Thursday but were unable to get a victory against the host Lions.

Ludlow’s Noah Bahgat was the match medalist with a 34 to propel the Lions to a victory.

Brady Wood led the way with a 42, Jacob Cornileson shot a 43, Addy Wood carded a 47 while Brady Dion and Christian Powell each shot a 48 for Frontier.

Running

Northfield Road Race

Isaac Bingham’s Northfield Summer Road Race course record of 17 minutes, 40 seconds stood for just one week.

After Bingham set the course record last Thursday, Mark Rabasco broke the mark by completing the 3.1 mile course in a time of 17:23 on Thursday.

Spencer Knickerbocker came in second (18:17), followed by Dan Mickus (19:30), Steve Power (20:36) and Emmet Flynn (20:43). Elizabeth Edwards placed sixth and was the first woman finisher. (21:02) Twenty-three runners and three walkers participated.

Thursday was the final race of the summer, as the series closed out its 14th campaign.

Golf

Feed the Families

The eighth annual Feed the Families Tournament will be held on Sept. 13 at Thomas Memorial Golf & Country Club in Turners Falls.

The tournament is a 4-person scramble, beginning at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start. There will be cash prizes, raffles and food for the golfers.

The cost is $300 per team. The money goes toward providing turkey baskets for families, with the charity donating to 150 families the last three years. For more information or to sign up contact Chet Czernich at 413-659-3061.

Valley Storm Golf Tournament

The first ever Valley Storm Golf Tournament fundraiser is taking place on Sept. 27 at Thomas Memorial.

The tournament is a 4-person scramble, beginning at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start. The cost is $360 per team ($90 per person). That fee includes 18 holes with a cart, prizes for the top three teams, prizes for closest to the pin and closest to the line, a catered barbecue dinner from Bernardston Barbeque Company and hot dogs on the course.

K of C League

Todd Curry took first (+10), Kyle Demers placed second (+8) and Rusty Demers came in third (+7) in the Knights of Columbus Golf League at Thomas Memorial on Wednesday.

John O’Riley won closest to the pin on No. 7 (11 feet, four inches) while Rusty Demers won on No. 9 (14-10). Frank Penny, Ned Nichols, Wayne Lacy, Scott Waldron and Brian Peters won skins while Ryan Hickey and Kyle Norwood tied for the low gross (38).

Timmons-Messer

Jim Laford and Rob Schrader won a match of cards over Mike Stephens and Neal Slocombe to card the low gross of 35 in the Timmons-Messer League at Northfield Golf Club Wednesday.

Jim Jason and Rob Lapointe shot the low net (24) followed by Bob Wanczyk and Trevor Blake (25). Bob Bateman won closest to the pin on No. 6 (9-3) and Richard Card won on No. 7 (6-0). Laford was the match medalist with a 37.

Soccer

Montague Elks Soccer Shoot

The Montague Elks Youth Soccer Shoot took place Saturday at Franklin Tech. Winners were Tucker Thurston in the U8 Boys, Caden Michael Thomas in the U10 Boys, James Bartolon Martin in the U12 Boys and Lillianna Miller in the U14 Girls divisions.

Those winners will advance to the District Soccer Shoot at a date and time to be determined.
