Writers’ Lunch: The Library’s LeVanway Meeting Room is open Monday through Thursday from noon to 2 p.m. for Writers’ Lunch, a self-directed free writing time open to any writer who is looking for a place to work through their lunch hour. Open for Business: Telecommuters and local business people looking for reliable Wi-Fi and a quiet workspace are invited to the library’s Greenfield Meeting Room Mondays and Fridays from 2 to 5 p.m. Access to the room is free and open to all who need a space to work.
Reading Relay: A read-aloud for all ages every Monday from 4 to 5 p.m., Reading Relay features a new theme each week with puppets, felt board stories and short plays during an hour when everyone reads. Come and listen or take part in the reading. Suggested for readers elementary age and above and for younger listeners.
Mother Goose on the Loose: Join Kay Lyons on Tuesdays and Fridays from 10 to 11 a.m. at a lap-sit story hour for children age 3 and under (with a grown-up.) Kay reads books, leads the group in hand rhymes, and uses puppets to teach animal sounds and other concepts new to the very young.
Wednesday Wizards: Children become wizards of science and have fun learning scientific concepts by doing experiments. Each session a guest presenter will introduce a concept with a book and activity from 4 to 5 p.m. in the LeVanway Room.
Chess Club: Enjoy playing chess? Meet up with other chess players at the GPL every Wednesday from 5:30 to -7:45 p.m. Contact calderrossi@gmail.com with any questions. The last Wednesday of each month features a speed chess tournament.
Writers’ Lunch Workshop: Jane Buchanan and Joannah Whitney lead this two-hour writing workshop which includes writing exercises and discussion, as well as an opportunity to share what has been written. Participants are encouraged to attend the open writing periods during the week as well. There is no charge for the workshop and registration is not required. Blind Date With a Book: Are you adventurous? Specially wrapped books are on display in the library with only the first sentence available to give you a clue to the contents. Now through the end of February.
Home Delivery: If you are homebound for any reason, trained volunteers will meet with you to discuss your needs and reading preferences and will deliver books to your home. See the application form on our website, https://greenfieldpubliclibrary.org.
Poet’s Seat Tower Poetry Contest: Open to residents and students in Franklin county in two categories: adult and young poets (ages 12 to18.) Entries must be postmarked by March 16. See details and guidelines on our website.
Bartenders’ ShootOut: Help raise money to benefit the Janice Bohonowicz Memorial Fund for the Friends of the Greenfield Public Library at the 20th Annual Bartender Shoot Out, Sunday, Feb. 19, 1 to 4 p.m. at Taylor’s Tavern, 238 Main St. Teams compete to slide a beer down a 10 foot table. $20 donation per team member gets you a shirt, a glass, two ales, a lot of fun, and the chance to support programs at the Greenfield Public Library. Raffles all afternoon, including 4 tickets for a Red Sox game.
