GREENFIELD — Teachers in six Franklin County school districts have received the annual Pioneer Valley Excellence in Teaching awards.
The award, given by the Harold Grinspoon Charitable Foundation, supports and rewards exceptional public and parochial school teachers in our region, according to the organization.
In Greenfield Thursday, two of those teachers, Greenfield High School English teacher Patrick Garland and pre-Kindergarten teacher Janice Fuller were presented their awards by their principals and Superintendent Jordana Harper while conducting classes.
“No matter what you have for a home or material things, if you’ve been able to touch a child’s life, you’ve done something good,” said Fuller upon being notified of receiving the award surrounded by preschoolers in her classroom at the Academy of Early Learning.
On Wednesday, the deparment presented awards to Newton School fourth grade teacher Jami Witherill and Four Corners second grade teacher Bharati Winston.
In the Frontier Regional and Union 38 School District, Sunderland Elementary School sixth-grade teacher Ellen Von Flatern and High School social studies teacher Allison Walters received awards, according to a press release.
Teachers in the Erving Public School District, Franklin County Technical School, Orange Elementary and Ralph C. Mahar Regional Public School District and the Pioneer Valley Regional School District also received the award.
The Recorder will publish the names of those teachers as they become available. They will be honored at an awards banquet April 28 at the Log Cabin in Holyoke.
