ERVING — A hiker was found and recovered after a roughly three-hour search Sunday evening near the Wendell State Forest entrance on Arch Street in Erving.
The Erving woman was reported lost by her hiking partner at 4:45 p.m., and multiple local fire and police departments responded. She was eventually located off a trail near the river, where responding fire departments found her and rescued her around 7:30 p.m., according to Wendell Fire Chief Joe Cuneo.
The woman, who police did not identify, was hiking with her dog and another hiker when the two became separated. The other hiker called 911.
The woman had no apparent injuries, but was transported to the hospital as a precaution. Her dog also appeared uninjured.
Wendell, New Salem, Orange and Erving fire departments responded, and search dogs were brought in from Petersham that were not needed during the search, according to Cuneo.
