HEALTH TIP
The pop culture world had a chuckle in the late 1980s when elderly women on television, in a depressingly bland tone, said, “I’ve fallen, and I can’t get up.”
But the folks at LifePath (formerly Franklin County Home Care) know falling down is no laughing matter.
Falls are the leading cause of fatal and nonfatal injury for people age 65 and older, but you can learn ways to prevent fall-related injuries.
Healthy Living, a LifePath program, plans to offer a falls-prevention workshop series called “A Matter of Balance” on Wednesdays, Sept. 7 to Oct. 26, from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the Greenfield Senior Center. The series will focus on reducing participants’ concerns about falling by teaching strategies that improve balance and increase flexibility and strength.
Participants will have refreshments as well as receive a workbook to help guide them through the curriculum. Caregivers and loved ones of workshop participants are also welcome to attend.
To register, contact Marcus Chiaretto, healthy living program coordinator, at 413-773-5555, ext. 2304, 978-544-2259, ext. 2304 or mchiaretto@LifePathMA.org.
