SHELBURNE FALLS — The Shelburne Falls Kiwanis Club has found a way to keep its annual Harvest Supper fundraiser alive in spite of the pandemic, by transitioning to a drive-thru format this year.
“Our fundraisers have been three community suppers a year and running the concession stand at outdoor school events, but with the pandemic, we’ve had to get creative” said Shelburne Falls Kiwanis Club President George Dole.
This year’s event will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 24, at Fellowship Hall on Little Mohawk Road. Dole said the change of location from the Shelburne-Buckland Community Center, where the meal is traditionally held, will help accommodate the expected vehicle traffic.
Tickets for this year’s meal can be reserved by calling Kiwanis Club member Mark Burton at 413-625-6859. When reserving tickets, diners should indicate their preferred pick-up window. Windows are from 4 to 5 p.m., 5 to 6 p.m. and 6 to 7 p.m.
For $12.50, or $6 for children ages 12 and under, patrons can enjoy the Harvest Supper’s traditional roast pork dinner. The meal comes with mashed potatoes, butternut squash, a roll and coleslaw. Apple crisp and whipped cream will be served for dessert.
The Shelburne Falls Kiwanis Club serves the children in the Mohawk Trail Regional School District. According to Burton, proceeds from events benefit scholarships and provide financial support to cover a variety of needs within the community. For example, one year, the club helped fund a new baseball diamond at Mohawk Trail Regional School.
Burton said the annual meal draws as many as 130 to 150 people. This year, Burton said, the club won’t know how many people to expect until reservations start rolling in.
“We’re hoping everybody who would’ve come out will come out,” Burton said, “but that can’t be guaranteed.”
