TURNERS FALLS — A car left the road Saturday afternoon, narrowly missing trees and a utility pole and sending the driver to the hospital.
At the scene, Sgt. Richard Suchanek said the cause of the crash was still under investigation.
Suchanek said the black Hyundai Tucson driven by Chelsea Tela, 24, of Turners Falls, was westbound on Millers Falls Road when it left the road. The car missed a large tree but struck a felled section of utility pole, dragging it along the embankment and passing between an upright utility pole and its support wires.
Tela was taken to Baystate Franklin Medical Center in Greenfield, where she was listed in stable condition later that afternoon. Two dogs were in the car with her and were collected by relatives and a neighboring resident, Suchanek said.
The crash occurred at approximately 2:45 p.m., directly opposite Hillside Plastics. Traffic was briefly slowed, but police, the Turners Falls Fire Department and Rau’s Towing had cleared the scene by 3:20 p.m.
