HAWLEY — There were only two names on the election ballot. Yet 63 voters (a 23 percent turnout) came to the polls to fill most of the vacant town seats with write-in candidates.
Sarah Rich was on the ballot and she was elected to a three-year term on the Selectboard/Board of Health.
Past assessor Eugene LaValley garnered 52 write-in votes and will be serving a three-year term on the Board of Assessors.
Incumbent Suzanne Crawford, the second candidate on the ballot, was re-elected to a three-year term on the Mohawk Trail Regional School District Committee.
A second, vacant seat for Mohawk representative remains open, unless CourtneyAnn Hoyt wants to take it, since she received five write-in votes for that post. However, Hoyt was also elected by 32 write-in votes to the Hawlemont School Committee — a three-year position she had run for.
For one-year terms, voters re-elected the following write-in candidates: Town Moderator Kirby “Lark” Thwing; Auditor Carla Clark.
