Tyler Yetter scored the game-winning touchdown to lead the Franklin County Bulldogs to a 10-8 win over Amherst Sunday in a Suburban League Junior Division football game at the Bourdeau Fields Complex in Turners Falls.
Brayden Arsenault carried in the extra point for the Bulldogs, who also registered a safety in the second quarter. Joseph White rushed for 146 yards in the win.
Vincent Renauld and London Washington each made three tackles, while Oliver Postera and Arsenault each made two tackles. Gabe Tomasi, Bryce Avery and Devin Emond finished with one tackle apiece.
Fall League
Joel Peabody pitched three solid innings Saturday but JS Rae Franklin County suffered a 2-1 loss to Northampton in a Western Massachusetts Fall Baseball League Varsity Division game in Buckland.
Peabody struck out three and walked one in three scoreless innings. Jared Ackerman and Sam Bobala each allowed one run in relief but both pitched well.
Franklin County got its lone run in the sixth. Cody Letourneau and Ackerman each singled to start the inning and Kyle Devlin worked a one-out walk to load the bases. Wyatt Bandy-Page hit a fielder’s choice to plate Letourneau.
Sim Maniatty added a double to right-center earlier in the game.
Franklin County hosts Easthampton this afternoon.
• In JV Division action, Tyler Dubreuil hit a two-run single in the second inning on Saturday to help JS Rae to a 5-5 tie with Northampton in Buckland.
Jared Jacobs and Cam Lococo scored in the fourth inning on an error, and Anthony Moffatt singled home Cullen Brown in the fifth to tie the game. Extra innings are not played in fall baseball, so the game ended in a tie.
Cam Lococo allowed two runs in three innings on the mound. Shawn Davenport gave up three runs in three innings. Mike Bassett pitched a scoreless inning in the seventh to preserve the tie.
Labor Day Round Robin
Jack Varner and Patrick Varner finished with a score of 34½ and won a tiebreaker over Ed Winseck and Cam Merrigan to win Flight 1 of the Labor Day Round Robin at the Country Club of Greenfield over the weekend.
JD Gexler and Ian Herzig came in third with a 24, while Brian Luippold and Nate Luippold took fourth at 20½.
Dave Perlmutter and Cliff Porter won Flight 2 with 27½ points, while Tony Wonseski and Rich Young were second with a 26. Pete Johnson and Corey Johnson came in third with 25½, and Norm Morris and Jake Morris were fourth with 24 points.
Keith Schempp and Dave McDonald won Flight 3 with 28 points, while Bill Luippold and Steve Lovett were second with 24½ points. Mike Duclos Jr. and Bob Liveley were third, and Tim Gochinski and Pete Murphy were fourth with 23 points.
John Stacy and Scott Stacy won Flight 4 with 27 points, while Dick Howe and Ernie Patnode were second with 24 points. Tom Rogers and Terry Sinclair came in third with 22 points, and Denny Depault and Ed Sabelawski were fourth with 21½ points.
Greenfield Doubles Tourney
Registrations are available for the Greenfield Tennis League Doubles Tournament.
The tournament is open to everyone, but players sign up individually. Partners are drawn on the first evening of the tournament.
The tournament runs from Sept. 18 through 20 at the Beacon Courts in Greenfield at 5:30 p.m. Male and female players welcome, ages high school through adult. Cost is $5 and a can of unopened tennis balls. Losers bracket for teams that lose in the first round. Trophies awarded to teams that come in first and second. Deadline to register is Sept. 17 at 6 p.m.
